I’m 6 weeks into an insomnia relapse. The last one was 4 years ago, that took me months to recover from.
Last night was 2 nights of zero sleep and then wide awake at 2 am on the 3rd night. I got desperate took a sleep med and it didn’t work at all. There have been periods when I have been awake 3 full nights in a row. Sleep did not come. Not for a minute.
Intellectually I understand I’m not supposed to control, obsess or chase sleep but
I can’t seem to make any progress with that this time around. I’m in that place of obsessing about sleep and can’t not think about sleep. It just seems like everything I learned from the last time is lost on me.

Things are really difficult for you right now.

It makes sense that you can’t stop thinking about sleep. I am yet to meet anyone who can permanently delete certain thoughts and feelings from their brains. Quite often, the more we try to do that (which is totally understandable) the more difficult those things become (and the more we struggle).

You understand that trying to control or chase after sleep isn’t a workable strategy. What are you doing — or what do you need to do — to put that understanding into practice?

If you are ready to stop struggling with insomnia you can enroll in the online insomnia coaching course right now! If you would prefer ongoing phone or video coaching calls as part of a powerful three month program that will help you reclaim your life from insomnia, consider applying for the Insomnia Mastery program.
