I used to sleep for long hours before insomnia (from 930pm-530am), therefore when I heard advice from sleep expert to not go to bed too early (which to most 930pm is pretty early), I got some conflict inside. On one hand, as I couldn’t sleep well after insomnia, my waking time has become 7am. Following a normal sleep time of 7 hours, that mean I should target a sleep time of 12pm. On another hand, as I used to go to bed at 930pm, it is to me not a “compensation thing” to catch more sleep by going to bed at that time. In the recent one week, I noticed that it’s almost certain that I couldn’t fall asleep when I got to bed (I tried lying on bed about 10pm), and I would wake up, do some reading and then normally I would be able to sleep after that (probably after 1AM). If I stay in bed longer (trying to accept my anxious thoughts), then only wake up to do reading (when I still couldn’t fall asleep), then my actual sleep time would be delayed. The pattern is really consistent. Is it this conflicting thoughts that have been driving the pattern I observed, and what can I do about this? Deep inside me, I have the desire of being able to sleep at 930pm as before.
