Have you talked to a therapist?

Thanks for your reply. Contrary to what most people believe in Canada seeing a therapist would come completely out of my pocket – which I can't afford. Instead, I made an appointment with my family doctor to see what she says tomorrow. Right now I'm taking 2 -2mg Ativans = 4mgAtivan just on the nights that I don't have to work the next day.

A few years ago my MD recommended Remeron. she reminded me later that it worked but was too expensive. So now I take Temazepam, Ativan and Seroquel (anti-depressant). This combo worked for me so well for years but now its stopped working. I long for that knowledge that I'm going to get a decent sleep when I go to bed. I'm just scared to go to bed now.

I have always had trouble getting to sleep. Even as a very little girl…my Mom would put me down for a nap, and I would lay there and pretend to be asleep. But really my mind was off on an adventure to somewhere, anywhere but the land of sleep. I have ADD without the hyperactivity feature, also mild depression and mild anxiety symptoms, probably caused by eternal sleep deprivation. Or did they cause my insomnia? Which came first…. I am a commercial writer who stumbled upon Insomnia Land while researching an article on…you guessed it…insomnia. It is one of my niche subjects because I am so familiar with it. Any way, I manage my insomnia with an anti-depressant, an anti anxiety, an ADD drug and a sleep aid which is also an anti-depressant. I wish I didn't have to take all these meds. I am almost 49 years old, a Mom to three grown kids grandma to one little granddaughter, and a grandson due any day now. My grandbaby, Ashlyn is 19 months old and already exhibiting problems taking a nap. at least once or twice a week, she has problems with bed time sleep as well. Hope we can help her fix this early…

    Deb,

Glad to see you on this forum. I've had insomnia for 40 years. I take 2 sleep meds and an anti-depressant. This combo used to work so well for a long time but now it's failing me. Usually I get a few hours of sleep but wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning and can't get back to sleep. Your anti-anxiety sounds good. I'm planning to go to my MD soon and see if she has an idea of what I can do now. Right now I'm just taking an extra pill to see if it has any effect. I absolutely dread going to work. My bosses have been nice until this one. And I'm 67 so I can't do alot of the warehouse work required. But I can't do anything else either. I think that this work thing is what has made my insomnia so bad recently.

Welcome to Insomnia Land, Molly and thanks for saying hi.

What kind of medical advice have you sought for your insomnia? Have you been on any medications or given Cognitive Behavioral Therapy a try?

I've been taking sleep meds for years. They were very effective for a long time. Sleep around 10:30 woke around 6:00am. But now I go to bed at the same time but wake up at 2am, 3am, 4am. Can't get back to sleep.

Where do I start looking into Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy? 🙂

    Another new member here.

Going through a terrible bout of insomnia at the moment, and desperately seeking some input about what others have tried/found successful or unsuccessful etc.

I went through a similar bout around 16 years ago, coupled with depression which ended in a complete breakdown & hospitalisation, so I'm determined not to go down that path again.

It will be nice to have someone to share the wee small hours with 🙄 (although I'm trying to force myself to stay in bed & resist the temptation to get up & do something like read or go online, but that itself can turn into a battle that lasts hours & is quite unpleasant, which I'm sure most of you are familiar with.)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

I can only add my sad feeling for your present situation. Currently I have a bad cold, cough which has changed into a bacterial infection – I'm now taking anti-biotics.

My sleep meds worked for years but lately they have been way less effective than they were for years. When (and if) this cold, cough is over I'm going back to my family doctor and ask her if she can recommend something else. 🙂

I believe to stop spammers you just need to post a hello to prove you're not a spambot or something is all 🙂

    Hope you enjoy your stay!

    Tommy,
