I have had these hypnic jerks and almost drove me crazy (you can read my other post about vivid dreams). At their worse they prevented me from sleep for 2 weeks in a row. I also had the sensation of falling through the bed as soon as I dozed off, which woke me up in panic every time.
I am now almost completely over them. I might have one jerk like this every 2 months or so.
As I mention in my other post, what helped me was acceptance and not stressing over it. I know first hand how difficult acceptance is and that this advice might annoy you even more, because it annoyed me when I was in your situation. But it works.
