Thanks for your reply Martin. Im happy to say that I no longer have insomnia, it resolved over the course of a few weeks after I posted in the forum. I would find that I would fall asleep when I wasn’t trying – when putting my kids to bed, in front of the TV in the evening, etc. So I carried that attitude to the bed, don’t ‘try’ and that helped relieve the sleep anxiety. Then I started sleeping full nights but kept waking up every 1 or 2 hours between sleep cycles, initially. And as I continued to let go of some of the safety nets I was anchoring myself to, sleep ‘freedom’ came back and I slept longer stretches and more flexibly again. And without need for the ‘the same’ evening set up for sleep every night. There have been a few wobbles along the way – when something happens that would normally disrupt a night, insomnia or not, like an illness for example. but they have been short lived as I have rebuilt trust that sleep will come. Your 2 week emails were very helpful – the one you talk about how accurate your thoughts are, and the question what’s the most realistic outcome – “I will probably at least get some sleep” really helped and I have told myself that many a night!
