Hi Martin,
Thanks for the question. I am not sure why I find it hard to fall back asleep. I usually get up, use the bathroom, drink a little water and then get back in bed and try to fall asleep. I know I’m not supposed to stay in bed for over 15-20 minutes, but sometimes I do. I think my initial insomnia was because of stress related to losing a job. This lasted about a month. And now it seems I’ve developed a habit of sleeping 4-5 hours. My current plan is to stay awake until midnight (sleep restriction) and go to sleep only when I feel sleepy. I nearly fall asleep on the couch when I stay up this late, but still wake at 5 AM. Prior to this bout of insomnia I was getting a solid 6.5-7 hours a night consistently.
Hi,
thank you, I am working my way through the course. I’ve researched CBT-I and have implemented the tools with limited success. I’ve had sleep maintenance insomnia for the last several months. I can fall asleep fast, but wake after 4-5 hours and cannot go back to sleep. Sometimes the sleep duration is shorter. I don’t drink, smoke, or even consume caffeine. Can anyone tell me what are some of the best solutions for sleep maintenance insomnia?
