Thanks Amber. I’m past the course now but only had one hour sleep last night and I’m in despair. Shall buckle in, as you say, and keep hoping for better things. I am doing the AWAKE exercise at night and sometimes reading so shall keep on.

I can sleep for a couple of hours then wake up and lie in bed for the rest of the night. If I stay in bed rather than get up, as I used to, then I have some energy for the following day. The day is not such a struggle for some reason.

I have a reasonably good night every other night then have no sleep at all the following night. Sleep nights and totally sleepless nights alternate. I can’t figure out why this is.

Since changing to a later sleep window (midnight instead of 11 p.m.) I now fall asleep fairly quickly, which is a great improvement, I guess because I feel more sleepy. But then I wake after 2/3 hours and can’t get back to sleep again. I can barely function at all and wonder how long this vicious circle will go on. I’m thinking I just can’t make this course work for me. I feel a failure and don’t know how to turn the tables.

My sleep window starts at 12 midnight and ends at 6 a.m. I don’t want to be in bed for fewer than 6 hours. If I watch television in my sitting room until very late I can start to feel very sleepy about 11.30 which is what makes me feel ready for bed by midnight.

I hope that by lying in bed at least until the end of the sleep window may make me doze off again and prevent another zombie day. I haven’t actually extended the sleep window. I’m usually out of bed before then hoping I’ll get more sleep the following night. It seems logical to me and `I hope for the best.

It seems logical. Last night I finally managed to lie awake and accept the wakefulness and not worry about it. Hoping it will continue that way. Turning bed into a battleground is not the answer as I’m learning.

After a really bad night of only 1-2 hours sleep, I feel like a zombie for most of the next day. I struggle through and do as much as I can. However, as night time approaches, I suddenly have a lot more energy but don’t know why that is. It seems like the more I do, the more the tiredness wears off. Strange. I have no idea why this is, just as bedtime is on the horizon again.

I’m finding it difficult to stay awake until the start of the sleep window and the thought of bed is so appealing. It’s also very hard to get out of bed at the end of the window every morning particularly after a zombie day of no sleep the previous night.

I am 5 days into week 2 and although I have had a slight improvement on some nights (and even slept for 6 hours on one night), last night I lay awake for the entire night- no sleep at all. Why does this happen after a good night? Why does the improvement not continue? I feel like a zombie trying to battle through the next day after no sleep. I wonder if this nightmare will ever end. Am hoping that Week 3 will be better but not feeling hopeful.

An old show biz friend of mine who was always home from the theatre late and going to bed even later would wake in the middle of the night. So she made a trip to the bathroom as she said it seemed like a gold opportunity as she was awake. She always claimed the way to get back to sleep was always to keep your eyes closed while you were out of bed – just don’t bump into the furniture!

Knowing that Martin is there to answer questions is a big comfort. All that sleep hygiene we read about is useless and it’s not incorporated in this course. I spent a fortune on new bedding, blinds, supplements etc etc. They don’t work.

I am just starting this course and hope to recover my sleep very soon. I used to sleep at least 6 hours, but now I often lie awake all night and feel unable to cope the next day – I can no longer go out at night or entertain as I’m exhausted and feel ill and don’t know how to compensate for this.
