Yes, you are not alone, mate.

Read the forum posts – and you will get some good advice.

I agree with yuo too. I only take it if it looks like I’m facing consecutive nil-sleep nights

    Will look up that drug.

Here in the UK they are reluctant to dish out sleeping pills too

    Thanks Davy,

You must raise your eyebrows when you read some people who write that they are worried about lack of sleep, because they “only” get 4 or 5 hours a night.

    Clearly, it’s all relative.

On the only times it looks like I’m facing a second consecutive night of nil sleep, I have to say I will reach for the Zopilcone. Don’t like to take regularly, but hey. when I feel v desperate and low in the middle of the night, I just think, why not?

    Deb,

Totally agree. I sometimes breaks down and cry or rage in frustration too. My wife says I should do that “and let it out more”. It would be awful to have to cope with severe insomnia without support of a wife/ husband or close friend – and I feel for anyone who has to cope on their own. At least, they can find sites like this for support.

Daf  PS I may (or may not) take longer breaks from the forum in next few weeks, as part of a process of trying to make thinking and discussing sleep less of a BIG THING in my daily life. Think Sasha Stephens said something similar in her book? I know Colin Winter also says this in The Sleep Solution book (think that was the title?) But if you start any post addressed to mewith “Daf” I will open and read it ASAP. Thanks for the support ongoing here.

Also, we have to look to our blessings with gratitude as not all people have them.

I have a loving wife, lovely son, I’m well off and work for myself. I’m quite fit and healthy. As far as I know, apart from the sleep issue, I don’t have anything else wrong with me. And my sleep problems not as bad as some poor people on here.

Sure there are some issues in my wife that are a bit of a pain – me and my wife both have elderly, sick parents and in my wife’s case, a sibling. who need a lot of our support and time. But it’s not so bad.

When I feel down, I count my blessings. One odd thing about insomnia is that it makes me really appreciate it when I DO sleep! Another plus!

Hi Davy, Do you go three days / nights with no sleep at all?

    Hi Deb,

No it was with a private therapist, not connected to Meadows.

The Guy Meadows course I went on was a waste of time. It was in London  for one day. They  just basically went though his book. No added value at all, no group discussions. I had read the book, already (was the only one who had in the group!), so no value to me at all.

“…..“whatever happens, happens.” there’s so much that’s out of our control (including sleep) so sometimes it’s easier to just accept it instead of trying to fight it.”

That is very nice advice. Thank you. It made me feel better.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Some useful stuff there, much appreciated.

Re treatments, I have had two sets of group courses (each over 6 weeks) with different parts of our health service, mostly CBT-I focussed – and some personal sessions with Mind, part of our NHS. I went to a day school with Guy Meadows and last year had about 15 hours with a private therapist and another load of sessions with a meditation teacher. Oh, and a 6 weeks group mindfulness course. I have suffered for 2 and a half years

Deb and Delv, am I right in thinking you both used to have nil sleep night – no sleep at all?

    Deb,

At lease you are getting some sleep (I recall, I think, that before you had nights, like me, when you got nil sleep – i.e. awake all night??)

This must be pleasing to have progressed on from that…..?   Baby steps?

(Just trying to look on the bright side for you!)

Last night nil sleep all night for me. Awful and feel sick and with a tight chest today, as per usual after a sleepless night.

    Horrible!
