I don’t have an answer for you, but I want you to know you are not alone. I have completely conditioned my brain to associate the bed with panic and anxiety. I know how awful it is. I’m so tired I can’t stand it, and yet I lie there with my heart racing. I think I’m going to have to suck it up and commit to a long road of sleep restriction to break it. Sounds like it is not pleasant, but it can rewire the brain. Best of luck to you! Hang in there.

I just came onto the forum to post my question…and saw that you already posted it for me! Your story is exactly my story!! I’ve been trying to stay up later to shorten the time I’m in bed. Last night I listened to some sleep affirmations and was nodding off. Could NOT stay awake. Climbed in bed and boom! Heart racing, anxiety shooting up and the it spiraled out of control. Full on panic and struggling (getting in/out of bed) for at least 3 hours until I finally slept for maybe 3-4 hours for the 4th day in a row. Now I’m already dreading this evening. I too have tried reading in bed the last few nights, even though you aren’t supposed to – hoping I can make it a positive place. No luck so far. Im more scared of the anxiety/panic at this point than the lack of sleep. I’m sorry I don’t have advice. Just wanted you to know you are not alone. So many people just don’t get the struggle. I get you! Good luck. Thanks for sharing your story.

I took a screen shot of your last comment. I will read it to myself at night. Thank you!

Thank you so much Chee2308! It’s nice to hear encouragement. I know it’s a learned thing that’s all in my head. So I’m hoping I can unlearn it. I think I’ll take your advice on reading in bed. Lately I’ve been reading in another room first because I thought you were only supposed to use your bed for sleep. But then it’s this big production where I start to approach my bed and those feelings pop up. Maybe if I read in my own bed and turn the light off when I’m sleepy, I can make my bed not such a scary place. I’m so glad to hear you have improved your sleep. Every success story helps. Thanks again!
