I didn’t get my hormones checked although I really wish I did. I feel like that would have given me peace of mind knowing that those fluctuations were what was causing my insomnia. It started around 2 month mark and lasted for 7-8 months. I tried everything to help me sleep; magnesium, benodryl, Ashwaganda, sleepy time teas, etc. Nothing helped. Like you I thought I was going crazy and that this was going to be my new normal. But then one day around the 10 month mark I got a solid 5 hours and that changed my life. I think what you need is time! Everyone’s postpartum journey is different but as long as you tell yourself that you will sleep again and not worry about going to bed every night you will be fine. This is just a temporary season of life that you’re in…I promise it will pass!
Flemca✓ ClientIt sounds like it’s your hormones. For me, I used to dread falling asleep and would think about how I wasn’t going to be able to sleep all day (anxiety). Once my hormones settled and I started sleeping through the night, a solid 5 hours or so, I didn’t think about it as much. One good night will give you the confidence you need to get back to where you used to be. Now I’m sleeping 8 hours most nights. It does get better I promise! How many months PP are you?
Flemca✓ ClientI’m doing so much better! I’m now sleeping 8-9 hours a night without a problem. If I do wake up, I follow Martin’s advice not to check the clock. That technique alone changed my life! I believe the insomnia was due to my postpartum hormones which settled down between 10-11 months. I finally feel like myself again. You’ll get there too! It just takes time! Good luck!!!
