Welcome to Insomnia Land, Sophia and thanks for introducing yourself.
Do you feel that your insomnia is directly linked to the seasons? Do you find that you sleep without any issue once the summer is over? I think it's a really interesting issue and well worth exploring.
I do feel that this summer is harder than last summer. All last year I had no sleeping problems and this year has been more tough in many ways. but the long days do wreck people's sleeping schedules. who wants to go to bed when midnight looks like 4 in the afternoon?
greenplant✘ Not a clientalcohol for sure makes me fall asleep but it wreaks my sleep schedule for the next week or so. i am trying not to drink anymore- or I will drink on a holiday but not during the work week or the weekend, because i need time to correct the insomnia that the alcohol causes. although nowadays i'm not sleeping period so maybe it doesn't matter!
i hear what you are saying about everyone giving advice-i'm just not bothering to talk about it to people anymore, no one can fix it but me and i've heard every type of advice under the sun.
greenplant✘ Not a clienti am a big believer in what you eat having an effect on your body, and not just because i'm a nutritionist! i notice a change in myself when i follow a clean and healthy diet (fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, no processed foods, lots of water). not only do i feel lighter but i do sleep better. the problem for me is consistency! unfortunately i do drink diet drinks a few times a week and I never heard of the connection between drinking them and insomnia. will have to research this more!
people don't realize the intimate relationship that food has with our bodies. it doesn't just disappear into a black hole once we chew it- our body works at digesting, metabolizing and nourishing itself long after we chewed and swallowed. I try to keep that in mind when I a eating- I look at the food and wonder about how my body will use it and if it will be good enough.
greenplant✘ Not a clienti've been on immovane on and off for the past number of years. currently i am taking it to help me sleep. it gives you a bad taste in your mouth and if you take it too late in the night it makes you super groggy the next day. but it works really well. i am disappointed each and every time i take it because i somehow feel like a failure everytime i put it in my mouth at night (after tossing and turning and saying to myself “just give it another 15 minutes”). I am on Trazodone but that does nothing so i am weaning off it. i slept marvelously well for a whole year and then spring time hit (which for me has always been a very difficult time of year) and it all went to shit.
so i am playing the waiting game now. have a doctors appointment next week and will see what she says.
