Hi Sonja. This is also my first week of course as I just signed up. I’ve struggled with chronic insomnia on and off for over 10 years. I am really hoping I can end this nightmare for good. Let’s keep up with the course and say goodbye to insomnia!

Hi Kat. Thanks for replying. I am feeling more hopeful. My sleep did improve some (it varies day by day) by implementing the techniques that Martin advices in the 7 days free courses. I am continuing to finish the rest. Actually I already learned about many tips from my CBTi training with the sleep specialist. I barely think about sleep during the day and I don’t feel fearful about my bed. However, I still cannot fall asleep sometimes and have frequent awakenings at night. I really like Martin’s method, and reading/listening all the materials/podcast are very reassuring. I hope you get through this and get your normal sleep back!

Wow that sounds terrible. I am very sorry. I’ve had similar experience (relapse) and I am still struggling. Have you considered taken the full course? I am on day 5 of the free course right now after trying CBTi with a sleep specialist and struggled with insomnia on and off for over 10 years.

Wow this thread is very good and hopeful. I am on day 5 of the free course and I really hope to fix my sleep disorder. I still yet to learn to accept my thoughts. I wish I had found Martin and this forum earlier because I’ve struggled with insomnia on and off for 13 years. I used to sleep every well… Earlier this year I worked with a sleep specialist and learned some of the techniques seen here. I’ve done CBTi and sleep restrictions. While it did help with my sleep problem, it only lasted a couple of months. It was like that over the years as well. I’d sleep better for some times, but when something or even some thoughts happened, it would all come back again and I’d be struggling for months. So I must say I am a bit doubtful because of my past experience. For example, I’ve been doing everything listed on day 5 of the free course already, but it hasn’t helped me consistently. My sleep is all over the place. Is it a luxury to hope for a good uninterrupted sleep for someone with chronic insomnia?

No it didn’t because it just made me worry more that I am not getting enough sleep.

I experience the same!! And on top of that I struggle with falling asleep. On a bad night, I can wake up 5-6 times at night and Everytime, after a few seconds of awakenings, I swear all over. I can deal with the hot flash during the day but at night it’s just very annoying. First I have to wait for the sweat to be settled down (usually less than a min) then cool off (usually a few min) then cover myself back up and try falling asleep again. I understand it’s normal to have sleep cycle awakenings but having more than 5-10 min (and sometimes hours) interruption at night is quite frustrating.

Hi, I am also new to this forum and have been struggling for years. I’ve tried CBTi with a sleep specialist as well but didn’t find it very useful, because I stress about the sleep window (feeling tired and sleepy but had to hold it off til later, and by the time it was time for me to sleep, I was wired and couldn’t fall asleep). I am not sure if that’s what happened to you. My specialist then adjusted it a little so I don’t have the schedule as strict as before. Also I think it’s the best that you don’t use sleeping aid while you are doing CBTi. You should talk to your therapist though.
