I can totally relate! The first 2 weeks I was sleeping great, last night I had a set back. Instead of panicking, I woke up at my normal time and worked out. It helped with my anxiety. Everyone on the podcast has been sharing that their experience isn’t linear. Like learning anything, I think we have to remember that there are ups and downs. We have to stick with the process and try to remember that everyone has off nights for sleep.

Also, try not to check the clock? Martin has shared that the hours sometimes are not as relevant as the quality of sleep we are getting.

I have the same difficulty with the E. I have tried waking up and doing an activity, but it almost makes me more alert and less relaxed. Sometimes, I just close my eyes and tell myself that my body is still getting active rest which is helpful and feels good. It makes it less of a struggle. A women on the podcast said she sometimes would get up and do deep breathing and stretch, rather than read or watch TV. I am going to try that next. You are not alone!

Also, in living the life I want to live do I make my new sleep window (on vacation) 12-645 instead of my usual 10:45-5:30? Same amount of hours, just plausible in the new environment with all the events we will be attending? I don’t want to limit my myself to less than 5 hours.

Ok got it. What are your thoughts on going the opposite direction? I will be going somewhere that is 2 hours ahead for a wedding. So I doubt I will be sleepy by my usual sleep window. Do I delay my sleep window 2 hours? Or keep the normal sleep window and just loose sleep that first night and build sleep pressure for the next day?

I think what matters the most is the amount of time you will a lot for your sleep window. So if your sleep window is a 6 hour period, keep it as a 6 hour period on your new time zone. Also, regardless of the window make sure you are very sleepy prior to getting in bed and going to sleep.

Is this correct Martin? I am traveling next week as well, but from west coast to east cost. I am planning to make a 6 hour window (i.e. 12-6) on my new east coast time.

My other question though is, if we are traveling and supposed to be relaxing, are we putting too much emphasis on trying to then set controls for sleep?
