    Hi Martin and Fidgety-feet!

Thanks so much for both of your replies and your kind and supportive words.

I think by staying in bed I was engaging in a more covert battle with sleep, hoping that if I could “withstand” the anxiety I’d be able to sleep. So the last time it happened I got up after just a couple of panicked wake ups and went and watched telly, fully accepting I was awake. That felt much more pleasant than gritting my teeth in bed.

Martin – in response to your other question:
I initially was prescribed the AD in the wake of postpartum PTSD and acute insomnia. I’ve had OCD most of my life and it was always a value of mine to cope without medication, so accepting the need for medical support at that point in time was huge. I stayed on the drugs for 1.5yrs or so, but the side effects (especially hormonal and metabolic) became untenable, especially in the context of looking towards trying for a second baby. I thought I needed the AD to sleep, but as I weaned off my sleep meds and saw that I could do without them, I wondered if it would be the same with the AD. It’s been an awful weaning process with side effects ranging from blood pressure issues to intensified anxiety and extreme vertigo. But I’m finally coming out the other side and learning to cope with my brain without medication again.
