I guess I get out of bed to do something different, instead of just lying there awake. I can stretch a bit and sit for a few minutes reading a book that I enjoy. I’m not necessarily sleepier when I return to bed a few minutes later, but eventually I fall asleep again. I guess in the back of my mind I am annoyed at the inefficiency of it all – why not just sleep through the entire night in one big block of time? But as you have explained, wakefulness is sometimes just part of the sleep cycle for certain people. I can’t say I like it but I am learning to live with it.

Yes, that does help – thank you. It just so happens that last night I went to bed a little before 11:00 and did not wake up until 5:00 this morning. So that was a solid six hours for me, which is good for me considering the way things have been going lately.
