– Η Medusa / Ianoulla

I am an only child. For the most part, I have slept alone. Oh, yes, lovers have come and gone, but they certainly could not handle my insomnia. They either complain that i should be able to fall asleep with them, or they complain that I don't go to bed with them BECAUSE I HAVE CHRONIC INSOMNIA. What to do. What to do. The best companions to slumber with, in my opinion, are from the animal kingdom. My preference are felines. And I have six. They don't whine. They don't elbow you if your legs are restless, and they are very tolerant and calming. My soon to be X husband said to me once: If I were 8″ tall, furry, and walked on all fours, I'd get more attention!” He's right. He would have.

As far back as I can recall, the women and men in my family have always had separate bedrooms: My YiaYia and PaPou had slept separately, (and YiaYia had a LOCK on her door ;); my mom and dad had separate rooms; and my X and I had separate rooms. So, any comments? 😮

Oh, hey! Thanks for the comp 😉 Another quote lover: Little daggers of insight. I also am a cinophile and have been watching more flicks than reading. I'm reading, but its for school and court documents. Dry fare. I watch a lot of movies when I can't sleep. I'd love to know what type of film genre's you enjoy and what some of your favorite movies are. A gargantuan task for a movie buff: Where to begin? Which one's? How many? (Whatta stress factory I am today, sorry 😉 I'll go first!

It'd be easier to tell you what I 'don't' prefer, LOL: No date fliks, unless the characters are quirky, deeply flawed & emotional wrecks; No teenage vampire fliks. I like my vamps straight up: Blade, Nosferatu (Murrow and Herzog), Copalla's Dracula, The Hunger; Yes to horror, but I am a dilettante. HaI Enjoy John Carpenter, Rob Zombie, Peter Lorre,' Todd Brownings “Freaks,” Guillermo del Torro (The Devil's Back Bone, Blade II), The Grudge 1&2 (by Japanese “Juon” series by Tak Shimuko, sp?), The Changling with George C. Scott; No sappy romances; No to porn unless we're talking about the Marquis de Sade.

Some of my favorite films are: Titus Andronicus, (Shakesphere's 1st play. No scata!), which upon viewing seems like Quentin Tarantino directed the version I have, starring Anthony Hopkins. Awesome film; Downfall, Fitzcaroldo, Wings of Desire, Nosteratu and anything else by Werner Herzog w/ Klaus Kinski or Bruno Ganz in it; The Station Agent; Picnic at Hanging Rock; The Last Wave; Be Kind, Rewind; anything with Mos Def in it; anything with Montgomery Cliff in it; Romeo & Juliet, The Action Flik; Man on Fire; M; Days of Heaven; Badlands; Suspect Zero; The Flock; anything with Brando; The Dark Knight; Mystery Men; The Haunting; The Innocents; documentaries; Blade Runner; Santre Sangre; Man Facing Southeast; Blood Simple; Hellboy 1 and 2; Midnight Cowboy; Reservoir Dogs; Cat 22; The Big Lewbowski. I'll stop there. There's hundreds more! Your turn! 😆

Hello, Em! Such a pleasure to meet you. And you live in one of my favorite continents: AUSTRALIA! My mother and step-father have visited. I hope to one day do the same. Many friends in Melbourne and Tasmania. Thank you for your response to my posting.

I am sorry to hear, but I don't feel so alone, that you, too, had a bipolar father to deal with. It really twists a child's mind: one day/moment to have a l loving and caring parent, and the next, they're off the hook with a manic episode. When I was much older I queried my mother: Didn't it worry you that dad was violently bipolar and had owned over 200 guns, (and he knew how to make his own bullets, too. Happy Happy Joy Joy, not)? She said no, it never occurred to her to worry. I was speechless. Which doesn't happen to me often, LOL!

But that is where I draw a definitive line between how an adult experiences trauma, and how a child views trauma. Still, to this day, I am afraid of my father. He is 81 now. Having not spoken to him since my YiaYia died (Grk for Grandma), (over 12 years ago), I rang him up to 'test the waters' and wish him a Happy Christmas.

Here is his response, verbatim: “You? Aren't you dead? Why aren't you dead? Someone should've killed you by now.” Click. The line went dead.

Intellectually, I now know that was the disease speaking, but it still hurt as bad as when I was a child. He would take me driving to the Red Light District in San Diego, and tell me that I'd never amount to anything; I'd end up as a 'whore,' and other miserable verbal abuse. So, it is what it is, you know what I mean my sister? I am in therapy and am going for a 3rd degree in Psychology, specializing in C-PTSD and PTSD, working with kids from 9 to 25. My shrink has an office waiting for me. LMAO. Dr. Greg is awesome.

You're so warm and down to earth. I believe a friendship has been born, yes? Call me Jennie, if you like. Medusa is my Twitter name, and my Greek name, 'Ianoulla,' well, its a mouth full. So, Em, much love to you. I try to stay logged on to 'insomnialand' all day and thru the night. So I'll check in later, ok? We'll find a way out of 'this' together!
