I think it was around midnight last night. It's now 1 a.m. Saturday morning, and I'm still wide awake.

    Hi, Jasmine,

I take welbutrin XL, too, for depression. My depression caused my insomnia. I've been on meds for 15 years.

    Welcome.

    Hi, annie t,

You're absolutely right…non-insomniacs don't have a clue about going through life half asleep and half awake. What's more, they don't care if we sleep or not.

They don't know the amount of frustration it causes. They don't know how it compounds, night after night. If we miss one night of sleep, then we get so caught up worrying about sleeping the next night that we don't sleep the next night, either. And on and on it goes.

It's definitely a horrible condition to live with. Only an insomniac knows how another insomniac feels, and there are lots of us.

    Welcome to Insomnia Land.

    Hey, Maria,

I take 50 mg of amitriptyline every night, and then I start reading. Some nights it works, some nights it doesn't. Some nights I'll read until I'm sick of reading, usually somewhere around 2 or 3 a.m. before I'm sleepy enough to fall asleep. Some nights I take a tamazapam. I don't like taking them because they're addictive, so I take them sparingly.

I never have a hangover with my meds unless I take them too late. Then I'm lethargic, and I want everyone to leave me alone.

My doctor referred me to a sleep clinic in Feb. of '08. I went in thinking they were going to tell me why I can't sleep. How naive I was!

I had to be there at 9:30 p.m. A technician hooked me up to a zillion wires attached to a large monitoring machine. I fell asleep easily that night, but I woke up at 3:00 a.m., which was happening to me a lot back then, still does actually. I lay there awake until about 5:00. I had to stay a certain number of hours for my insurance to cover it.

When I went back a week later for my consultation, the doctor was concerned with sleep apnea only. He wouldn't even talk about my waking-up problem. He and his staff were absolutely worthless for my situation. The doc wanted me to try sleeping with a band-aid-looking patch that covered about 90 percent of both nostrils. They restricted my breathing waaaaay too much, so I through them in the trash.

    What a waste of time.

    Hey, Dozydame,

The floods do make insomnia seem insignificant. I'm glad you're okay.
