Yeah, essentially the sleep study was conducted on the public health system, which is great cos it's free, but there's not a lot of testing and retesting to be done. They only did me because one time I stayed awake for ten days and they wanted to know why the frack I wasn't sleeping. (In between pumping me full of haldol… Mmm haldol.)
I've rarely shared a bed with someone else, I find it's okay for me so long as I have my own duvet and my standard earplugs/super dark/lots of drugs routine. Not so flash for the other person who watches me thump my head into the pillow for fifteen minutes as I fall asleep.
I'm also a no-sock person. Its not temperature as it can be literally freezing in my flat and I can't wear socks.

How do other people kill the lonely hours? I don't like to use my laptop because it just makes things worse.
Remy✘ Not a clientNever really got into CBT – did a lot for my depression and it did stuff all. Seems to rely on the idea you can only have one idea at once. Have been finding mindfulness therapy useful in relaxing me, but my brain wiring is fubar'd so therapy isn't going to fix the underlying problem.
Remy✘ Not a clientHuh, that is super interesting – my insomnia started after a fall which dislocated two neck vertebrae and compressed the meninges. Never had it related to my insomnia though, due to the concurrent depression. (Life hit way hard at that time)
Remy✘ Not a clientSafety's never been a high priority… I used to take zopiclone with amytriptaline and whiskey.
Remy✘ Not a clientI took a pill that contained valerian and hops. Only worked when combined with anti-histamines.

Remy✘ Not a clientYup, definitely!

You are SOOOOO… welcome here! I too have had chronic insomnia since my 30ies (I'm 67 now). You mentioned taking quetiapine. I've been taking quetiapine for about 5 years now too with Temazepam and Ativan. This combo worked so great for me for so long but all of a sudden (or maybe slowly and I just didn't notice)my wonderful sleeps I could count on every night are gone! My doctor recommended increasing my quetiapine from 25mg to 50mg. Had a BAD reaction to 50mg on the 4th night. Had a great sleep (and I was so unbelieveably happy to think I'd solved my problem). But my happiness soon turned in a real, real downer. So I've been taking about 37mg quetiapine for the past 3 nights (crappy sleeps). Tonight I'm going to try the full 50mg because I have 1 more day until I have to go back to work. so if disaster strikes again, I can compensate tomorrow night.
I'm on 75mg of Quetiapine and every time I've gone up a dose the hangovers have been BAD. Head-thumping, eat everything, feel gross all day bad. But I've gotten used to it. I'm now thinking a switch up to 100mgs might work. I also take an anti-depressant which helps because it's a stimulant and kicks me off into sleep (yay ADHD!) but I have issues staying asleep. once I'm awake, I'm awake.
Remy✘ Not a clientI'm a bit of a Vertigo brat, love Sandman (irony…), Lucifer, Fables, Transmetropolitan, and right now I'm spending all my money on collecting Hellblazer. Haven't made it up to the year I was born yet.
I also love me some Batman, but only the noir stuff. The first comic I bought was “Arkham Asylum” so I was into creepy right from the start.
