The only thing that has been helping me a bit is picking a time to get up that I can live with 7 days a week (at least for now), and then trying to go to bed around the same time every night as well.   I had to play around awhile to find out what a good bedtime was, and for me, I actually started at my normal time, and added a few minutes every few nights (so it got a bit later) until I found one in which I started to sleep easier.  My sleep wake up time wasn’t crazy different before, but it would vary between 6:30-8:30 throughout the weekdays and weekends.  I found I can live with getting up at 7am every day to work for me.  I will eventually be trying to bump that back once the long summer nights start to dwindle and I can start getting to bed a bit earlier.  Good luck!!

I have the EXACT same situation with my hubby!  I just went through an awful bout of insomnia.  I am now able to get a few good nights, but they are usually when he is in the guest room (which makes me and him feel awful 🙁 )  Besides that, he gets up at 4:30-4:45 for work, so is laying down by 9 and out by 9:30.  The one thing that seems to be helping me a bit with my sleep is forcing myself to get up at the same time EVERY day and go to sleep around the same time (within 30 minutes depending on how tired I am).  However, this means not climbing into bed until 10:30 when he is already in a deep sleep and getting up at 7, which means he wakes me while getting up for work.  This works great while he is in guest room, but doesn’t help us to sleep together!  You’re not alone!!  I am considering for the fall-winter months to try and start getting up much earlier so that I can perhaps fall asleep before or even with him.  Do you guys have a similar sleep schedule?

I am hoping that happens.  However, right before this started (which was about 3 months ago and about 2 weeks before my new job), I was sleeping better than I ever had.  I would lay down around 9pm with my husband, as we have done for many, many years now.  I would usually turn off the TV around 10-10:30 and within literally 5 minutes, I was out.  I would wake up once or twice to pee, but fall back asleep very quickly, and usually when my husband got up at 4:30-4:45.  However, I would always fall back asleep by around 5:15-5:30 until around 6:30. In the beginning of this, it started out that I was falling asleep quick, but waking up very frequently, and it would take longer to fall back asleep.  Then, I started to really struggle with falling asleep, and that’s when my husband’s snoring became unbearable.  He is now in another room during worknights, which we are both extremely unhappy about.  Although I sometimes sleep better in separate rooms, I still have some awful nights like that too.  I have caved in and started to take Gabapentin 100mg no more than 2 times during the workweek if I had a previous night of less than say 4 hours.  However, I only want to lessen that, not increase it.  I just have to have a good night’s sleep on occasion to function for work.

I have no problems going a day with horrendous sleep, and I have done it many times.  However, 2 oor 3 days straight is another story.  I’ve literally sat there while my boss talks to me and haven’t taken in a thing she said.  I am hopeful that the sleep restriction would work eventually, but I know that getting into bed super late will raise my anxiety even more initially, and I’m not sure how to do both the restriction and work together, especially since I’m still so new at my position.

So really,  what I’m trying to figure out is I am averaging 5 hrs of sleep a night (very interrupted),  but at this point,  I think I would fall asleep much quicker if not for my husband’s snoring, and I would also sleep steadier if not for the snoring and his early wake time. Should I still use the 5 hours as my sleep time plus 1 hour? I’m also concerned that when I crawl into bed late and he is already fast asleep, his snoring will be in high gear, and it will be even harder to fall asleep, so would I add more time for those things?  Any suggestions would be great.

I guess my issue is that regardless of whether I am having an insomnia issue or not, he always wakes me (guaranteed) for about an hour each morning around 4:30.    When I am not having an insomnia period, I am normally able to fall asleep with him around 10pm, wake up for a few short bathroom breaks and with him at 4:30, then conk back out from around 5:30-6:30.  However, when the insomnia is here, I can toss and turn to 11:30 on a great night and MUCH later on a bad night.  I also wake more frequently, and it takes me WAY longer each time to fall back asleep.  He gets awoken when I come in and put the TV on.  Plus, he snores and has PLD, so if I’m not asleep before the snoring and twitching starts, forget about it.  That extra pressure certainly isn’t helping.

Thanks for the response.  I never really looked at Shuti in detail, so I didn’t know how similar your program was to theirs.  Thanks again for explaining!
