I have almost the same thing. No heart issues. Just anxiety about getting to or back to sleep. It’s hard to accept and allow and get to sleep, even if you are sleepy.

How do you get rid of the fear of being scared?
I know it’s in my head, but seems to crop up every evening.
Any suggestions on how to combat that?

Also, my question is, I usually read before bed. Is this something I do not do in bed? I have always read, till sleepy, then fell asleep.

Mine isn’t waking up, it’s falling asleep.
I used to read and get sleepy and fall right to sleep.
    Then going through depression
    Stopped working
Now I fall asleep on couch and go to bed after dozing a while and usually right to sleep.
I known I shouldn’t do that but can’t just go right into bed and fall asleep
    Tried meditations also

I tried welcoming that thought last night, but more thoughts kept popping into my mind. Then I’d welcome them and go back to relaxing my body, feeling soft pillow on face, welcoming thoughts, letting them go, to no avail.

What I have read for the issue you are having, as well as I, is that the more you get panicky and more anxious, the less you will succumb to sleep. I recently read a book that states, it will not exacerbate if you acknowledge the anxiety and then give it a funny name, or a label, like “chest” if your heart is beating fast or something like that and continue either counting breaths, or you can notice sensations like bringing awareness to your toes, feet, ankles, legs, up the body to your head. Not tightening them, just how they feel. A mindfulness.
Something I am going to start trying as I have been where you are so many times.
Also, I have read that if you do that and don’t keep jumping out of bed and going somewhere else, you will start to relax more, whether you sleep or not.
