Welcome to the community, Shy 🙂 sorry to hear about your panic state this morning, are you OK?
Have you suffered from insomnia long?
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientWelcome to the community, MissMinx 🙂 I'm sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you'll find some great comfort, advice and maybe pick up a couple extra friends along the way here!
It sounds like you have a lot on your mind. At night before bed have you tried keeping an old fashioned pen & paper diary? Get all your thoughts, feelings, worries etc down on paper before bed – getting them out of your system so to speak?
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientHi Martin, thanks for the reply hope you're well, did you have a good Christmas & New Year?
Migraines caused by the insomnia I reckon, since they started after the insomnia. I went to bed 2 hours ago and now I'm back again at 1 AM. Just posting on a few blogs and then will do some more work until morning again now.
I'll take a look at the course 🙂
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientYou know you need more sleep when you pour youself a cup of tea – boiling water, one sugar, milk, then start to walk away with your cup forgetting you haven't even put the blooming tea bag in like I did this morning!
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientChips! Drowning in salt, vinegar & brown sauce!
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientHmmm interesting study, Martin thanks for that. I never thought of drawing a connection between salt and sleeplessness, might be something in that, because I eat TONNES of salt.
Unfortunately cutting salt back is not an option for me. Chips.. without salt?!? No thank you 😆 unseasoned mashed potatoes? Unseasoned veg?! Noooo arrgh nightmare.
You make a really good point, a lot people cut back on putting salt on/in their food and think great, I've cut back on salt. Then they go eat processed food which often has over 3x the daily recommended amount of salt intake anyway!
Luckily in hindsight my salt intake probably isn't that bad, as I love to cook, so all my meals are fresh from scratch, the only salt that goes in it is what I put in it to season.
I might experiment with this actually one week. Infact, it's Monday today. From today 'til Sunday, I'll put salt in/on all my food, then from next Monday to next Sunday, I'll go without salt for a week and record if I feel any differences in my sleep pattern.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientWelcome Jen glad you found us, hope our little community can be of some comfort and help to you, there's a wealth of information and support to be gained here 🙂
I understand completely what you're saying about family. Mine have always been the same. Supportive but never really understanding. They think insomnia is a case of having a few bad nights or having a bad sleeping routine.
Used to irritate me when my mum would nag me and say “you should stay awake all day after being awake all night then you'll sleep the next night”.. doesn't quite work like that mum thanks 😆
As for exercising, sometimes I found it had the opposite effect. After exercising I felt more alert, awake and pumped up and it just made me restless, have you found the same sometimes?
Look forward to reading your posts!

I reckon it's probably more to do with avoiding all the idiots it'd attract late Friday/Saturday nights.
It's right at other side of Sheffield though which is a bit out of my way now I'm in Worksop. But I may take a trip one night, play some snooker and have a chip butty.
And yeah Brayan 24 hour licensing was legalized here a while back. Costs an arm and a leg though so not many places do it.
Riley's does it, but you have to be a member. It's a snooker bar/restaurant.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientYou know you need more sleep when you try to reverse out the garage.. and suddenly remember you don't even have a car.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientThat's brilliant to hear, Kenny, well done! Glad you're getting a half decent sleep finally, please keep us posted!
I can't sleep with earplugs or headphones either, way too uncomfortable. You could always buy a cheap radio/tape cassette player with a small speaker though, have it on your bedside cabinet on low volume.
May I ask what you do when you get out of bed? I make a huge mistake in this area. If I can't sleep, I get out of bed and jump onto the computer and start working. I've become a bit of a workaholic lately so if I can't sleep I'm working.
Irony is, often the reason I can't sleep is because when I lay down all I can think about is working. “I wish I got this done today, if I go do it now it'll be done by morning”.
So I may have to try and force myself to do something else when I get up.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientHi, Andy.
Welcome to Insomnia Land, hope we can be of some comfort and support to you! Sorry to hear about your situation mate, Insomnia Land has a vast wealth of information that I'm sure will be of great value to you.
There seems to be a question that pops up from time to time.
“Does depression lead to Insomnia, or does Insomnia lead to depression?”
What's your opinion on this given your situation do you think? Have you been to see your GP?
Hope to hear your thoughts on this, take care for now!
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientIt was the first of a trilogy of Alien prequels.
The characters were wooden and about as shallow as a puddle of pee and there were more holes in the plotline than a piece of Swiss cheese used for bayonet practice.
Hopefully Prometheus 2 (released in 2014) will up the game a bit. I'm gonna give Ridley the benefit of the doubt, it has been 30 years since his last decent film, Prometheus may have just been showing signs of his rust.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientHow's your sleeplessness these days, Martin? Has your own community helped you get a better understanding of healthy sleep?
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientHi, Kenny, welcome to Insomnia Land. Hopefully we'll be of some comfort for you and provide useful information you can use/try out. 🙂
Please do keep us informed and posted on your progress.
Tommy ToXen✘ Not a clientExercise definitely helps, exhausting yourself.
I started taking long walks through the woods and around the lake with my dog, drinking copious amounts of caffeine, I'd stay up all night, and all day the next day.
By 9/10 PM next day I'd be out and sleeping like a baby.
Often enough I fell asleep sat in my computer chair!
