Yes, I've found relaxation tapes help my sleep. I have a 40 minute one by Jon Kabat Zin which I try t remember to do regularly during the day – 40 minutes is looooong but it takes me about 15 mins to calm my brain down. If do it in the evening I doze off during it!

Jerry, are you getting exercise? I try to walk most days and I feel much more energized, I've been doing that for a few months now. I walk for about an hour.

I live in the countryside so I just put on boots and go out.

    Hi Jerry,

You seem to have a similar problem to me, long term sleep problems and a sleeping pill habit.

I have been making progress and agree that you do find that you can manage on a small amount of sleep. I think much of the problem is the anxiety of not coping the next day due to tiredness, when in fact it is the anxiety that is the problem maybe more than the actual sleep loss.

I struggle to stay awake in the evenings, does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Martin,

    I am having some success.

Though having had problems for so long it will no doubt take a while.

Have found it difficult to post but seem to be able to if I press a couple of time with the left button which fades the Word paste icons.

Will post on the other threads now Ive worked out how to do it! See if anyone else is at the same stage as me.

Not really but I've had sleep problems all my life.

I've tried many solutions but I think the difficulty is with sticking at it long enough to change things. I have taken Zopiclone for years but they have stopped working recently. I would take half a tablet at 3 am to get a few more hours. So am trying to restrict time in bed but as a result so getting 4 hours a night so hope I can stick at it long enough to increase the hours I sleep. It's been a week now (with half a sleeping pill twice).

I find I get dispirited when there's no improvement and then say sod it and revert to taking pills again

I am 60 and constantly read articles saying that people need less sleep as they age which is discouraging, as that implies I have to just get on with it!
