I had headaches last week but I just contributed them to poor/no sleep and also weaning off some sleep meds.

I’m sorry you’re waking up feeling unrested but wow consistent sleep! That’s wonderful 🙂 and good job getting up at the same time each day- that takes dedication

I know this is an older post so 1. I’m curious how @Nicki_23 is doing with tapering off medication. 2. I feel like I could’ve written this. So many nights half the struggle was figuring out which combination of pills would work and then be frustrated when they didn’t work. I think the hardest thing is the NP I’ve seen did not give me a plan to taper. She said I could just stop. And as Martin says many times you are the expert on you. So I’ve come up with a plan to taper and I have stuck to it the best I can.
I also appreciated what you said Martin that the plan might look different but as long as you commit to sticking to it. And to answer the question of why is this important to me: sleep aid was never meant to be a long term solution. I want something more sustainable, more natural to work through insomnia. And being off sleep aid moves me towards the life I want to live. I want to regain confidence in my body’s ability to sleep.

@ChefDevo1776 It’s so easy to feel alone when no one else in your family or your circle of friends are walking through this. You’re not alone 🙂 How has your sleep window been going?

I’ve had insomnia for 5 months now and started off with lunesta on the highest dose & then when that wasn’t working I added seroquel and slowly increased doses. I had a breakdown back in february (was also working through other health issues) and ER doc put me on other sleep aid that was NEVER meant to be long term. It helped but stopping it cold turkey really screwed with my mind and emotional well being. I don’t know if I can put into words exactly how awful it was. After that it was a huge mental game of “what combination will work best” until I finally realized that even on sleep aid, I would still have nights of no sleep and lay there feeling drugged. Doctor tried to put me on Temazepam but I couldn’t do a benzo. I’ve read too many things about how awful those are to wean off of. Unfortunately the doctor told me I could stop the seroquel and lunesta cold turkey and gave me no tapering plan so I’ve been on my own with that. Just this week I have been working on coming off the seroquel but definitely have noticed some headaches and body aches. I have decreased the lunesta from 3mg to 2mg but my goal is to come off of it completely. And of course like you, I am concerned about rebound insomnia. But I really don’t want to be on this stuff any more. So I am trying to be patient with myself while I taper and try to look at how far I’ve come even though I’m still taking something.

Yes, I’ve had insomnia for about 5 months now and honestly I am working on applying what I’ve learned in this course so far- having a sleep window and the 3 good things each day. I’ve also been working on deep breathing for 15 minutes in the am & pm for the last 2 months. I also have a hard time switching off not thinking about it and some days are easier/harder than others. The best I can, I’ve been working on not canceling too many plans and trying to be present in the moment the best I can even if I feel like garbage. This is my 3rd round of insomnia hitting and this round has been the most challenging which is why I finally signed up for Martin’s course in hopes that I will walk away better equipped to deal with the present insomnia as well as any that may come up in the future.

I just wanted to say well done for sticking to your sleep window for 6 days no matter what the sleep outcome was. 🙂

I’m hopeful that it does work. Last night was night one for me with 0 sleep.

Thank you for sharing where you’re at. I feel the same way- wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Praying we can both see the change we are seeking in this course.

I hear you. I hit a wall with 3 mg lunesta not working and then adding seroquel on top of that and laying there drugged and it not helping. So frustrating but also showed me I didn’t want to be on that stuff anymore. Hard though on the hard nights. I’ve tapered down on the meds and had a ROUGH night last night. But there have been better nights even with lower doses- I hope that encourages you. I know I need to trust the process and I’m just getting started with the 6 week course.

I’ve also been in this same battle of when to take the sleep aid or what’s the latest I can take something. I’m still taking sleep aid but have been working for the last month on tapering off. I’ve noticed that I’ve had good nights and bad nights regardless. Which is why I’m here looking for a long term solution.

In my experience I have seen good nights of sleep and poor nights of sleep on increased doses. I know I am not you who is suffering but maybe not increase yet?
