AuraTodd✘ Not a client
Hi from Old Blighty, what is a JRT if you don't mind me asking?
AuraTodd✘ Not a clientI am reading a book called 'The Worst Jobs in History' http://www.unofficialtonyrobinsonwebsite.co.uk/pages/worst_jobs/worst_jobs.htm for the official website. Some of the stories make grim reading like:
The Spit boy – who had to turn the spit over a roaring fire at Hampton Court, and ended up almost being cooked themselves by the heat.
Grooms of the stool – well someone had to wipe King Henry the 8th's bottom.
Also people cleaned out the blockages in the pipes under palaces which was horrifically smelly and could result asphyxiation because of the stench alone.
The book doesn't mention the chimney boys who were sent up into dark narrow chimneys to clean the soot and grime out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimney_sweep gives more detail about this. It doesn't even bare thinking about that children as young as five were sent up into 9in square space using back, feet and knees to propel themselves. No wonder some of them got stuck!

It's so cliched, but I really love Gone With the Wind too. I don't know what it is about that movie, but I'm just drawn to it.
I wasn't too sure of Gone with the wind when I first saw it. Bit once you get into it it's a great film showing the horrors of the American Civil war and what went on. i wish they would do one about the English Civil war instead of trying to namby pamby it. We have a re-enactment group called the Sealed Knot http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sealed_Knot_(reenactment) for more info and http://www.thesealedknot.org.uk/ for the official website. I know there is one for the American Civil war. Not sure what their website is, if you know, can you please put a link to it?
Only thing is I don't like things that go bang as I find it scary, so I am not very keen on the guns they have at the shows.
If you are drawn to a certain period in history, this could mean that you had a past life in that era. I like second World war and Tudor because I had lives in both those centuries.

For me it's gotta be Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin and of course, Walter Brennan!
Saw 'Hang em high' with Clint Eastwood which was atmospheric.

Probably because my minds whirling all over the place. 🙂
AuraTodd✘ Not a clientI do the classes in the morning as they usually fully booked. I usually find it hard to sleep the night before getting up.
AuraTodd✘ Not a clientNo Butlins is in full swing still, never tried Centre Parks, what's it like?
AuraTodd✘ Not a clientWhat happens in a sleep clinic?
AuraTodd✘ Not a client'xdunlapx' wrote on '06:A sleep clinic is where they hook you up to wires and cameras and watch you sleep. They figure out why you are having problems staying asleep and even getting to sleep. I've been through on once and I hated it. But my psychiatrist wants me to do one again and actually finish the set of sessions. EEK. I might do it but I'm trying to avoid it if possible. But I guess I should do it if this new medicine I'm on doesn't work. I haven't picked it up from the pharmacy yet. I'll pick it up today.
Sleep clinics are also used to see if you have sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.
Does it hurt? EEK! 😕

Firstly, welcome…I know it is a bit late but I'd been quite I'll last few months…it's a great community here!
Secondly, I understand your negativity toward the medical profession quite well, I suffer with several conniptions including epilepsy, depression and diabetes and things got so bad that a couple of years ago I basically turned my back on them all, never went to see them and mist foolishly of all even stopped taking my medication for about a year. Things spiralled out of control, until I registered to a different doctors surgery, that was last September and I finally have a doctor who not only listens but treats me like a intelligent being and not an idiot.
Things are finally getting on track for me, the specialists actually listen to what I have to say, I'm remembering to take my medications…things look good at last!
My doctor mentioned a sleep clinic. what ever that is.

I am so sorry to hear of your friend's cause of death. I can certainly understand your reluctance to take pills. I hope the physician involved was suitably warned/censured or took the event to heart.
In the US, if you're problem isn't fairly obvious sleep apnea, you are not likely to get the medical attention you need, either. Depending on where you live, thee might be a sleep clinic handling other causes of insomnia or sleeping issues, but much depends on your location and insurance contract.
Hi Hope you OK. I know her family wanted an inquiry, they have a sleep clinic in London, the NHS is in a real mess at the moment with patients not being able to get past the receptionist to Dr's giving out pills willy nilly. There are some good Dr's out there, it's just finding them.
AuraTodd✘ Not a clientThis is the problem I have found with Dr's that when you mention insomnia, the first thing they do is mention sleeping pills. I actually had an argument with a nurse over this and said in the end 'you obviously can't help me' and left. There is more to life then pills for everything. They put my friend on sleeping pills because she couldn't sleep and she fell from a 10th floor window when opening it up one night to get some air.
Sleeping pills don't help, they make the problem worse. The NHS don't use sleeping clinics, as it involves spending money.
