I live by a road where traffic starts at six-am, and car alarms go off at night. Also dogs with owners stagger down the road belching and farting after a night at the pub, I don't know what the owners think.

I don't think paranormal activity is 'paranormal'. I think it's normal stuff happening at a different dimension.

String theory and M theory believe there are 10 or 11 dimensions overall, of which we're all currently hanging out in the 3rd. If we as humans in 3D can barely understand what the 4th dimension looks like, even the tiniest interaction with anything from a higher dimension will blow our minds. I don't believe in ghosts and aliens but I believe that people have real experiences (ie not elements of their own psychosis) they can't explain. The higher (out-of-sight) dimension is my theory.

Carl Sagan gives a good example here of our 3rd dimension as seen from the 2nd dimension here:

There's a lot of things that science hasn't discovered yet. Spirit runs on a much faster vibration then the earth's. Imagine a fan spinning, the human eye see's it as a blur but slow it down and you will see the blades. This is how a medium taps into the spirit world. If you slowed down the vibrations of a street or room, what could you see?

Is this what you do for a living? I like – do you make films in your spare time as a hobby, too?

I wish I could make a living. No I just document the past for future people to see 🙂

Well, time to do a roundup of movies I have watched recently…

    • Mega Pirhana – Oh jeez…this was truly awful movie, it is not the worst I've seen by any stretch of the imagination (if you have seen Birdemic, you will understand why..and that movie has a sequel out next year…damn!!) but the SFX were dreadful and it was epically cheesy on a grand scale…I'm glad I only borrowed this movie and didn't actually buy it.[*]Salt – I know lots of people have slated this movie, but I kinda enjoyed it (and looking at Anglina Jolie can't hurt either!!) and kinda the usual spy movie stuff really. I personally think that it was a fun movie to switch your brain off and just enjoy.[*]The Sorcerer's Apprentice – Be fore I say anything else…if you are expecting to see a live action version of the incredible Fantasia, don't go and see this movie. It's good fun though, and there is a nod to Fantasia in the film. Some fun SFX and it was nice to see Alice Krige as something else other than Borg![*]Centurion – nice movie about the legendary 9th Legion of Roman Soldiers. This movie was done by the same guy who did Dog Soldiers, and although there are some historical errors, I enjoyed watching it and there was a good gore quotient too.[*]Deadly Friend – I have been trying to get hold of this movie for ages and at long last I have been able to import it on DVD!!! It's about a boy who moves into down with a robot who gets destroyed. He gets friendly with the girl next door who is killed by her abusive father…and the boy brings the girl to life using the circuit boards of the destroyed robot…and she goes on a rampage killing the people nasty to her….kinda silly horror, not one of Wes Craven's best, but there is a classic scene where the girl crushes someone's head with a basketball!!

Think that is it for now…more as I remember!!

Is that Piranha the new film?

I do not believe I've heard of Lipstick on Your Collar, and the Singing Detective has always been a curiosity of mine. Thanks for the suggestions, Aura Todd!!!

I watched Atom Egoyan's latest “Chloe,” last night. It kind of reminded me of another '90s luminary Tom Tykwer (German filmmmaker: “Run Lola Run,” and “The Princess and the Warrior”) in the sense that they made brilliant films in the '90s, but then Tykwer did “The International” most recently, and Egoyan has now made “Chloe.”

Although thematically similar to a lot of one of Canada's brightest filmmakers work, and written by Erin Cressida Wilson (she wrote “Secretary”) this really felt like a “mainstream” “Hollywood” version of an Egoyan film, rather than an actual Egoyan film–which it technically is. I have to imagine they were trying to make a more “accessible” film, and though the character Chloe (acted splendidly by Amanda Seyfried) is intriguing and unique, this film ultimately felt pretty flat and ho-hum to me.

Just looked up The Singing Detective, assumed you meant the film (w/ Robert Downey Jr.), but there is also a 1986 mini-series(?) which seems to be of the same source material. Which one should I watch???

    The 1986 one.

I love the subtle reference to that “'other' vampire/werewolf saga currently doing the rounds” Even though I have nothing against it per se, it sure is fun to poke fun at. I still have to see the third Underworld movie, I think I should add it to my queue.

I recently rewatched Red Desert, the classic first full color film from Michelangelo Antonioni from 1964, starring the great Monica Vitti. Watched it for the second time in the past few months since it was released again (it's been out-of-print for years). Still holds up, not just visually or thematically, but I still maintain it is one of the best films depicting mental health/breakdown I've seen–particularly unusual considering many of the over-the-top films of the 50s and 60s dealing with mental illness–though I should stress that is not thematically what the film is about. I should also, I guess according to the insert, that it is considered “avante garde” (aka not for everyone). But I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Have you seen the Dennis Potter version of Lipstick on your collar, and the singing Detective?
