I was so excited when BAD BOYS finally arrived on BLU. I bought it without even thinking about it. (Considering it is Sony pictures, and Sony has a huge stake in BLU, it really baffles me it took them this long to release it.) Suffice to say, I was entertained (funny, good action), but I almost instantly sold it on eBay…I guess maybe my standards were lower back then??? It wasn't a horrible movie, just not the one I remembered loving and watching repeatedly on DVD. (P.S. Talking about the Micheal Bay directed, Will Smith/Martin Lawrence/Tea Leoni movie, not the other movie of the same name.)

Saw two excellent films, two nights in a row.

          1. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. If Scorsee's “The Departed” is arguably one of the best remakes ever made (with him finally winning an Oscar to prove it), equally legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog's remake (total re-do) starring Nic Cage and the underrated Eva Mendes is the arguably the best remake that no one bothered to watch. Fair warning: It is insanely intense & disturbing.

          2. Summer Hours. Oliver Assayas is pretty much my favorite contemporary French filmmaker, and with this film he returns to his roots making the kind of 'old school” French films he and others were making in the 90s (and 80s). But he adds some interesting layers to it, and it has plenty of his New French New Wave pinache to a traditional style. It's ultimately about loss…and the objects and value & safety attached that they leave behind. I can see why it made into the Criterion collection.

Saw Predators last weekend. Excellent film. Exactly what I was expecting from a Predator film. Loved it.

Been watching a few movies recently….

Harry BrownGot to see a preview screening of this earlier in the year, so had to pick it up on BluRay, it is a brilliant gritty movie.

Pandorumanother BRD for the collection, I watched it and thought “meh” although not really slept too much so maybe I should watch it again.

Saw III, IV, V, VII watched these back to back as I bought them all on BRD cheap and hadn't seen VI yet and I'm a fan of the frachise. Fun movies, nice bit of gore…just hope that VII isn't too lame considering it is going to be in 3D

PredatorsI was really looking forward to this, and I didn't really rate this at all. I have watched all the Predator movies to date and thought they were great (even thought the AvP movies were not too bad) but Predators just couldn't hold my attention no matter how I tried…but there again lack of sleep could have been the issue…but saying that I'd hardly slept when I saw the next movie I mention so I am not so sure.

InceptionI went to see this, expecting a movie that would mess with my head and possably be very confused by this movie…but no. I totally got this movie no problem..it had shades of The Matrix in it, but don't hold that against them, it is an enjoyable watch.

Oh, yameris & emmaree I am DYING, absolutely DYING to see both INCEPTION and SALT. Sadly, my social anxiety is so bad, I haven't been to an actual movie theatre in probably 2 years, no joke. When I was younger I routinely saw 1-3 movies a week at theatres. At any rate, I'm holding out for INCEPTION…there is an actual chance I might go see it. Otherwise, as usual, I must wait for BLU/DVD.

I truly understand that…I am fighting it every day…some days it is almost impossible for me to answer the phone, let alone set a foot outdoors.

Let us know if you see Inception, it not too bad, very clever movie.

Don't think Salt has been released in UK cinemas yet think it is this week or next.

Oh, and bit of a headsup…the Clash of the Titans remakes is garbage.

Watch the original, it's pretty cool…although not true to the mythologies.

Watched the Underworld Trilogy this week as I'd grabbed it on BRD, certainly better than a certain Vampire vs Werewolves saga that is currently doing the rounds…

Oh yeah, and watched Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift….that Hulk car is pure awesome, if I could drive, I'd want one of those!

I think we might need a 'Seen any bad movies lately' discussion topic. I have been inspired by 'Bad Lieutenant' and 'Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus'.

I love the subtle reference to that “'other' vampire/werewolf saga currently doing the rounds” Even though I have nothing against it per se, it sure is fun to poke fun at. I still have to see the third Underworld movie, I think I should add it to my queue.

I recently rewatched Red Desert, the classic first full color film from Michelangelo Antonioni from 1964, starring the great Monica Vitti. Watched it for the second time in the past few months since it was released again (it's been out-of-print for years). Still holds up, not just visually or thematically, but I still maintain it is one of the best films depicting mental health/breakdown I've seen–particularly unusual considering many of the over-the-top films of the 50s and 60s dealing with mental illness–though I should stress that is not thematically what the film is about. I should also, I guess according to the insert, that it is considered “avante garde” (aka not for everyone). But I thoroughly enjoyed it.
