    Dear Blau,

Try setting 'worry time' aside every day. Write down your worries, that frees your time up for potential sleep at bedtime. I also find writing down positive affirmations help at bedtime. Rather than writing 'I will sleep well' write 'I do sleep well'. It's like re-setting your brain.

    Hope this helps.

I won't drive when I'm sleep deprived, no matter what. You are putting youself and others at risk. If I can't cancel an engagement I ask someone to drive me. Sleeping pills can take a toll on your brain too when you are driving the following day.

I live in Canada and the BCAA will take you and your car home if you are unable to drive and are away from home. Worth checking into if need be.

Neurofeedback seemed to help after about 20 sessions and then for about 2 months after I quit.

Biofeedback was interesting but I borrowed the equipment for a couple of months.

I Quit neurofeedback because of the cost and I hadn't realized I would need to continue so am back to square one.

Yes Martin, I have 🙂 I have had 4 sessions so far of neurofeedback and have borrowed a biofeedback gizmo to try it out. It is an interesting theory and time will tell if it works for me. The PTSD that I was diagnosed with in 2008 is quite evident from the feedback. My brain is 'stuck' so to speak. However I am hopeful…….

For now I have to go, as it is time to leave the computer screen, a big part of sleep hygiene, eh? I have to say 'eh' as I live I Canada 🙂

Will be back if anyone is interested in the feedback.

May I take this opportunity to express my ongoing gratitude Martin for the ongoing research and information you share.

Any more interest in this topic? My sleep clinic Psychiatrist has recommended the bio-feedback. I can buy a gizmo thingy for around $200. And he's ok'd me to try the neurofeedback. There is someone in my town who offers sessions for around $60.00 per sess. I've put a lot of time and $$ researching and so on I will go. Meanwhile, i am finding meditation and dharma teachings incredibly helpful to reduce anxiety and just make me feel better about life in general. It cultivates compassion and kindness and that can't be a bad thing:)

    Happy Winter Solstice!

Hi to Groggy! Was very interested in your explanation of biofeedback. Thanks for that on behalf of everybody who like me read it. I had been trying to get info and had not been successful. Tell me, did you buy the equipment and set it up at home with your laptop, or do you go somewhere? If you could clarify that it would be helpful as i don't know where to start. It is not advised to watch screens before bed, so when do you do this, and are the results culmative or day by day? Thanks again.

Thanks for that info. Good for you, you sound like you have a good handle on things. It does take years of research and trial & error before finding what works best overall. I will report back when I have seen my Psyc Dr at the end of this month as to what he says about the CES. Meanwhile i hope you get better results.

Thank you Martin for inviting me into the Forum (many times) after my intial inability to access it. I really am so grateful to you and always look frwd to learning more. Can you give me a suggestion as to what to label myself as so to speak? As I explained in my intro I don't know how to divert attention away from insomnia being my disability, but i don't want to lie either. I could stretch the truth at a pinch! Hope your good weather continues. We are still having some sunny days in BC too, yea. I will most certainly contribute what i can to the Forum.

    Cheers Kate

Thanks guys for all the info on this CES. Will be most interested to hear progress reports. Fortunately I do have an open minded Dr and sleep-clinic psychiatrist, so i will put it to them. That is if such products are available in Canada! No doubt it would be twice the price as most things are up here!
