I'm the same with the Blackberry. Checking the clock got so bad I've started switching it off completely.

I find listening to Joanna Newsom pretty relaxing (in particular The Milk Eyed Mender). Haven't tried it before bed yet. I've added it to the list.

incense works if it's something light and calming like nag champa. loose incense or powders are also good.

    / me shudders

I hate the smell of incense. When I was living in halls, the smell of burning joss sticks would keep me up. One man's poison and all that 🙂

lavendar oil is brilliant to use on your temples or diluted as a massage oil.

Lavender baths before bed are pretty good too

the best thing i've found is having a clean, warm, comforting bedroom — whenever i clean mine, i always sleep better. clean sheets, no junk laying around

I second this one. Almost like being in a clean and clear space influences my mind to be the same.

On Monday night, I ate about three quarters of a box of double chocolate cookies, fell asleep faster then normal and slept the entire night through.

    What's that about?? 😮

My current faves are Doll and The Kicks and Mumford and Sons.

I heard Mumford and Sons' song “Little Lion Man” and the chorus sounds REALLY familiar – but I can't for the life of me figure out what it reminds me of. Another thing to keep me up at night 😀

Kik, did you eat particularly high amounts of a specific food before changing your diet?

I was eating a lot of refined carbs like white bread (lots of toast) and pasta (hmmmm…cheesy pasta). Also a lot of diet sodas especially Caffeine free diet coke and diet/ low fat yogurts. And at the start of the year I went through a long phase of crumbed or battered fish. No, I don't know what that was about either 😀

It must also have been a quite high salt diet as during my first week of eating clean, I lost 5lbs off the scales. I'm pretty sure it was all fluid.

One night, I was offered a bed at a friend's house while she was away. I was lying awake (as usual) when her flatmate walked in and proceeded to get into bed with me! I'd heard tales about him being a sleepwalker, but I wasn't sure if he was actually asleep or if he was trying it on. Anyhoo, I jumped out as he got in and after a few minutes of watching him get comfy and then start to snore, I went to sleep on the couch.

The following morning, he greeted me with a cup of tea and apologised explaining that regardless of what meaures he took to stay in his room, he was regularly waking up to find himself in my friend's bed – next to my friend! So far (and this had been going on for a couple of months) he'd managed to escape her room at some point without her knowing. But up until then, he'd been too embarassed to admit to it.

Later, when he did confess all (much to the absolute horror of my mate), it turned out the rest of the household were all aware of his nightly visits to her room, but we're also too embarassed to mention it believing there was some kind of “arrangement” between the two of them.

You couldn't make it up 😀

It's 22:58 UK time and I'm far too awake to think about falling asleep, but my brain is too tired to concentrate on anything. It's this limbo that causes me to stay up a lot.

The tiniest things can keep me from sleeping like temperature (too hot or too cold), if the sheets pull away from the mattress and fold up that I can feel ridges. Same if my pyjamas crease and fold too much. If I've eaten too close to bedtime, also if I'm hungry. If the room is too light, if there are too many noises like creaks from when the temperature drops. If my phone lights up, that can be enough to wake me up too.

Sometimes I feel like the Princess and the Pea 🙁

The only times I've ever been able to just fall asleep are usually when I've had WAY too much to drink or if I've been up for over 36 hours. They might be fun at the time, but neither are long term solutions 🙂

    hehehe!! Totally right?

Muse aren't exactly aging, but I remember seeing them in my early 20s as a supercute support band. Ten short years later and Matt Bellamy (who's only about a year older then me) looks and dances around like he could be my Dad.

    It's a hard life being a Rock Star 🙂

    Man, I'm jealous! 😀

Well, I wouldn't call this last video an excuse, but it does come with a handy safety message: http://bit.ly/a6srSF *

I spent two years travelling around Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Thailand. In Europe, Before that I've had holidays to France, Germany, Switzerland (for lunch, we were just driving through), Italy and Portugal. Hopefully going to Spain next month for the first time. Still haven't taken the opportunity to go to Ireland or Scotland yet. It's weird because it's on the same landmass, there's no real urgency to do so.

Travelling and being on the road for that long was a little hard but oh, if I could have a job where I was constantly travelling, that would be awesome. 🙂

Good Times: I watched Stardust on Sunday after spotting yummy Ben Barnes in the tv trailer.

Bad Times: Watched 45 minutes of the awful movie before being told I had already missed my dreamboat's short appearance at the start of the film.

Good Times: Finished editing chapter 1 of my Novel and sent it to my sister who loves it. Roll on Chapter 2 🙂

Shutter Island comes out this Friday in the UK and I'm quite looking forward to that. Also just got around to seeing 500 days of Summer this week. That was a lot better then I was expecting. I like Joseph Gordon-Levitt's work. Anyone see The Lookout? He was great in that.

Once ran across this guy claiming to be a vampire, with elders and everything (quite a few of those actually). He listed this club in El Paso as vampire friendly, and I couldn't help but wonder to myself: Since he's saying the myth of sunlight is true, why would a vampire move to city which is known nationwide as the Sun City? I guess it wouldn't matter if they were holed up all day, but it struck me as odd.

Stephanie Meyer has a LOT to answer for 😀

Here's the guy claiming to be inviting Aliens down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTRG6nd-1cQ. The message changed and he said they'd be here at 12:00 GMT. At 25 minutes past, I'm still waiting.

I feel sorry for him. The ribbing he's going to get now will be unbearable 🙁

When my boyfriend and I were both living in London, we used to go to Lindy hop classes which were great. Because there were always two to three women to each man, we were encouraged to swap partners every few minutes which made it quite social.

It was also quite handy for the two of us as my boyfriend is over a foot taller then me which makes dancing together difficult. We have a few weddings coming up this year and I'm contemplating buying 5 inch high heels so we'd at least be able to slow dance at the reception. I can feel the bunions already!
