Hi Antman455, hi Macadamia, thank you for your posts and for your kind words. I am doing pretty bad :(((. Every day is a struggle. The only thing I am doing is visiting doctors and doing different kinds of treatment. Until I have money. I cannot afford all of them. Noone helps and supports me. Every day may be the last for me. Yesterday I finally figured out why I have insomnia. I did a genetic test and it showed, in brief, that I have problems with melatonin and GABA, two the most important factors for sleep. It is in my genes that is why none of the treatment works. My genes were fine before major stresses and shock happened in my life. This changed my genes. I do not sleep for 5 days in a raw for sure. And even after my brain does not switch off but rather I have microsleeps. Then again no sleep but I already do not know for how long – I cannot function anymore. I have tried tonns of alternative approaches – tolerance is developing to all of them very fast. The answer to it may be that it is because my problem is genetic. So, my insomnia not necessary be connected to my mental illness.

The question is to Martin – in my particular case (genetic reason) can CBT-i help, at lest partly? I would be happy to sleep on my own for 4 hours every night. Is it possible with CBT-i.

I tried to find our Russian CBT-i specialist (not Martin and not abroad), the only reason is that because it is much cheaper. I had very bed experience with such specialist, from Saint-Petersburg. In Internet they say that she is super-perfect. But what she was saying was bullshit. In my province we do not have CBT-i specialists. I did sleepio course (www.sleepio.com) (they accepted me for free as a laboratory animal), did everything but could not resist sleep restriction – I feel enormously bad both physical and emotionaly when I was trying to do it. Well I feel very bad even without sleep restriction.

I lost my hope :(((. Because nothing helps me. My relatives do not give a shit about me. My friends do not understand how serious my situation is. Our specialists say that I will die because people cannot live on microsleep once in 5 days. And it is a horror both physically and emotionally not to sleep that long.

Because reason of my insomnia is genetic I do not know what to do about it. Scientists are in the very beginning of treating genetic diseases.

Please write to me. I am very glad to receive comments on my post. For my mental illness I have something between schizoaffective disorder and bipolar, i.e. I have simptoms of both these disorders.

Now I am doing rTMS. It is not only for depression, it is for many things. If someone is interested I can keep updating about the progress.

    Thanks.
    Elena.

And later different combinations of the first three classes. I can list you name only in Russia. I do not know their Latin names or how they are named abroad.

    Hi Martin,

Thank you for your reply. Your forum on Insomnia is the best I manage to find. I would rather stay there. I find a very good tips here. Unfortunately I live far from our capital and cannot go there. I contacted Moscow specialists on CBT i and want to talk firstly to them to see what they say – is CBTi in their opinion could be of at least partial help for me. I talked shortly to few sleep specialists not from my town but elswere. All they say I need CBTi. But none of them new in detail how serious my problem was. So I would like to talk initially to these Moscow specialists. And descover their opinion. Thank you, Martin, for creation such a nice web source where people can sare their problems and tips.

    Elena.

Hi Davy, thank you for your reply. No meds work for me. I developed a resistance to them. I tried marijuana, the strongest version of it, no effect on me at all. They all affect the same brain receptors. And my doctors say that my brain receptors lost their sensitivity to all possible meds and herbs and alko. I do not dring. But tried a couple of times to make me asleep. No success at all. I do not know what to do. I would do whatever possible to have at least few hours of sleep per night. I do not know what to do. I will die soon. I have no friends, no family to support me and help. I am on my own.

Davy, I would be happy to have 5 to 6 hours of sleep. I also would not call it insomnia.

Daf –Sleep will come in the end… if not tonight, or next night, then the night after that. —

This is true for a healthy individual. I have schizoaffective disorder. It may cause my insomnia. Or may not. Noone knows. My EEG shows my brain is overexcited. My mental illness and insomnia started at the same time after extremely strong stress. Actually it continued for several months. So you can imagine.

Edgar –If you’re that desperate, do what I do and try Valium, or some other similar substance–

I do not know how valium is called in Russia but I tried EVERYTHING available on our market. They used to work in the beginning. But then suddenly ALL OF THEM stopped working. I developed resistance to them. My doctor continues prescribing me meds but none of them work.

Our main sleep specialist in Moscow says that a healthy avarage people can survive without sleep 7-8 days (with nil sleep), then stroke and death. I am pretty close to it.

What Martin describes here is right for a healthy individual. But when you have some comorbid health issue it is not working the same way. For example me. I have insomnia and schizoaffective disorder. Both started several years ago agter extremly strong stress (I would say a shock). Without sleeping aids I do not sleep at all!!! Recently I spent five days and nights with zero sleep (exhausted and willing to die) after what my brain switched off for a short period of time (maybe 15 minutes, maybe 30, something like that). After that again – four full days and nights with zero sleep. No compensation at all. Something got broken in my brain that does not allow me to fsll asleep. Something in brain biochemistry.

I read about excitatory and calming mediators and found ou that I have problems with ADENOSINE metabolism: it is either not accummulating or not stored in the body. I figured it out by symptoms of adenosine deficiency. And no idea how to correct my adenosine deficiency. I cannot find any literature about it. I do not know what to do now. Our doctors do not know anything about broken adenosine metabolism.

If someone of you met this on the Internet please share. I am dying of no sleep.

Our sleep specialists say that I will die soon. Nothing helps me. I have tried tons of approaches. I develop tolerance to all of them very quickly. I do not know what to do. I already had several attempts to commit suicide. Insomnia is a hell. Many years ago I had a serious depression. It was much easier than my current insomnia. No meds work for me. I developed a resistance (or tolerance, I do not know what is the difference). The same is true for herbs. I developed tolerance to them. Magnesium initially worked but then stopped. I do not know what to do. I will die soon. My doctors also do not know how to help me. Die soon.

I checked it now. You can buy it now. But only inside USA. They do not send abroad. The next year. They offer 30 days trial period but it is going to reach Russia in about the same period of time. How would they deal in this case? I do not want to lose my 600 dollars.

I used to visit a couple of hypnotherapist. After the first session I slept. But after no sleep at all. I did couple more sessions and then decided that it is a waste of money. Later one hypnotherapist told me that I develop a “tolerance” to hypnotherapy sessions because I have such a brain and that`s it. I also tried hypnotherapy for sleep bought in Internet. With the same success. Initially it helped but later stopped helping me.

Now I see a specialist who work with trans. I did three sessions without any success. He says I need more. It is expensive for me. I started to think is he just faking me? During the sessions I feel a bit of relaxation. But that is it. No any improvement in my sleep. He is from Moscow. We are working with him by Skype. So I am thinking if I should continue seing him or should I quit and he is just lying to me.

I am considering to give a try to CES Ultra. After I finish with my other brain technology. I am now doing some sort of neurofeedback. But CES Ultra is expensive for me. Since in live in Russia in a small town. We have another level of prices comparing to USA, Europe and UK. But I wish to try it. I have no choice. I want to live. I do not sleep without any aids for several nights in a raw. And meds and herbs do not help me.

I have this device. For my very serious insomnia it does not work. But if I combine it with other sleeping aids it helps. But now I ran out of additional sleep aids. I developed a tolerance to all of them. And do not know what to do.

I am doing now sort of neurofeedback. We call it bioaccoustic correction. But the idea is very close to neurofeedback. The prices here in my town is 1.000 rubles for one session and I need to do 10-15 sessions (it depends on the result). I have just started. Already feel improvement in my depression. But not in sleep. But it was only my 1st session.

The best form of magnesium for absorption is magnesium glycinate. You can use malate and citrate as well. But not oxide (thhe worst one for absorption). The dosage (per magnesium) is between 300 and 1000 mg per night for sleep depending how bad your insomnia is.

I used to take magnesium and it used to work for me. Then something happened and it started to help very little, in a maximum dose.

If you increase the dose you will have muscle weakness.

Now it does not work at all for me. It happened after one shaman (or I do not know how to call her) offered me her free help. And after this “help” magnesium (as well as homeopathy) stopped working completely. A mistery.

I tried around prescribed 20 homeopathic remedies to help me sleep and only Coffea worked for me. But the homeopathic doctor must be a very good specialist to prescribe you a homeopathic remedy. They vary from person to person even with the same symptoms.
