Insomnia is a real beast. When I first started getting it I was very upset, because it's not like I ever slept well, but at least it was sleep. But then hours upon hours were spent awake and I would just lay there and reflect on what I was doing wrong.

Eventually, I came to terms with it. I don't like to take things, especially heavy sleep aids because they leave me so drained for two or three days, so at this point it's just a part of life. It would be nice to sleep restfully one night, but if I really think back even when my husband is home I don't sleep well. I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, I guess, so my anxiety keeps me a light sleeper but I do fall back asleep easier. Plus, for the first few months upon returning, he has to work through the adjustment and that makes it difficult on a whole other level.

I don't know that it's something anyone can completely adjust to, because there's always some unknown, but it is something we can elarn to cope with.

Good Times: Leftover stuffed shells for lunch.

Bad Times: I've run into three walls and spilled a new bag of potato chips.

But that's ok, because Good Times: That means I didn't get to eat said potato chips!

Hi, Mike! Nice to meet you! I'm from Ohio, as well; where abouts do you hail from?

I write junk like this: http://www.zombiephiles.com/zombie-survival-guide/zombie-survival-stay-home-mom

I have always had a fascination with apocalypse survival, but I was never a Y2K nut.

I've actually written other articles for various websites, but the zombie stuff is more fun.

Before you write me off as insane from lack of sleep, my other hobbies include crocheting, photography and travel.

    I have so many interests, I'm never bored, but I'm a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none.

OMG, love it! My kids helped me put together a zombie survival kit, as they would see it. It included Crayons and water guns filled with acid. Zombie stuff is fun, I agree.

I do believe that's my tweet. It rarely happens to me, but the last few nights have been extra rough, and to top it off, I think my sleepwalking has returned. Tons of people blow off insomnia as if it's something to be disregarded; you can't have a bad night of sleep once and claim it, nor can you you say it's not a big deal. It does affect people's health and well being. I think I'll walk to get the kids today, despite the weather.

By the way, if you see a tweet tomorrow about rug burn on my face, it's b/c I set up a tripcord. lol

Yes, actually. If I wake up to no sunlight, I know I'll sleep horribly that night. No clue as to the why; could be because the sun gives me an energy boost through the day. Without that boost, I'm so exhausted by bedtime my body sleeps three hours and thinks it's rested enough. Then I'm really screwed.

Too bad it's raining here today. <_<

I've noticed in times of major stress, I hardly sleep at all. When it's just me here, it's difficult as well, simply because I'm so used to having another person with me. Also, if I know I have a busy day ahead I'll lay there for hours on end waiting for the damn alarm clock. It's like why even set one? lol

I never got into Metal Gear. Splinter Cell and Hitman are my forte. The new Splinter Cell releases here this month. I'm probably going to be out for a few days when that happens. lol

i definitely have problems with anxiety and stress. I'm pretty obsessive about checking everything's off/locked/safe etc before I go to bed, and most of the time I'm really anxious that *something* is going to happen but I don't know what.

When I wake up too early I get really paranoid as well — does the anxiety cause the insomnia or does the insomnia cause the anxiety? 😮

lol, that's like the chicken and the egg.

Nice to meet you, Jess! Have you always done your best work at night or just since the insomnia started to hit?

Hi Lindsay! It's nice to meet you! I can totally understand not being able to sleep when your husband is away and not wanting to take heavy meds with the kids there — I have a bit of trouble sleeping when mine's away and he's never even gone for long! Does anything help?

Hi, there! It comes and goes; unfortunately when I do sleep all night I feel worse than if I hadn't slept at all. lol, gotta love it. I read in another thread you have seasonal disorder. So do I, which is why El Paso is so great for me. It's rarely rainy or cloudy.

I've never kept a sleep diary, per say, though I do write sometimes on my laptop about it. It's not a standard thing; I try not to do anything that could keep me awake.

My OCD is very mild, though I used to be worse. I would iron my bedspread because the wrinkles bothered me. 😮 Now, I have methods I employ to control it; for example, I need to leave the cover crooked because the kids made their beds and I can't demean their effort like that. So instead of straightening it, I'll use those little stress balls until my hands are so sore I couldn't do it if I wanted to. lol, by that time I've found something else to do, so I forget it until bedtime later.

I know exactly what you mean about tailgaters. One of the accidents, a guy hit me going 30 mph because he was looking at his laptop instead of the road. It slammed us into a car of little old people in front of us, but we were the only ones to sustain significant damage. When I hear screeching tires five years on, I still have to pull off the road and calm down.

This city is bad for me, because drivers here suck. lol

Good times: Going to lunch today with a great friend.

    Good times: Handing out resumes.

Bad times: My cereal got soggy. Boo!
