I just do a yoga nidra (which means yogic sleep) which is like putting yourself in between a sleep and waking state (like just before you fall asleep) and yes, I use the phone. F all that stuff that they tell you “not to do.” Did it ever work? It’s a pretty pleasant feeling doing yoga nidra and you get to stay in bed and just lie there well being guided to different body sensations and breath. I used to use it as a way to get back to sleep but now I know that is called a sleep effort so I try to think of it as the next best thing to getting enough sleep. It helps me get through the day when I am short on sleep. In Yoga Nidra you are not “supposed” to fall asleep (many people do). You are supposed to just listen to the voice guiding you through the different body parts and your breath. You feel rested after so it’s kind of nice! I don’t see it as a sleep effort because as a yoga teacher I know it’s original purpose before becoming a fad was to deeply relax the body and mind.
