mistered✘ Not a client
This is an awful drug. 7.5 helped for about 6 months with my ability to fall back asleep when awakening at 4 am. Then it stopped working, but stupidly kept taking it for another year. When I stopped taking it cold turkey I couldn’t sleep at all and developed wild anxiety during the day — I had to reinstate to my previous dose and do a slow taper. There are many stories like this on the Facebook mirtazapine tapering group.
I am down to about 3.75 mg and it seems like I’m on the right track. I think CBTI is making a difference by keeping my sleep window shorter and getting me more tired when I do go to sleep.
mistered✘ Not a clientSame for Remeron. Went on a low dose for insomnia and it didn’t work after a few months. Then stopped it and got worse insomnia and anxiety which I never had before. Now am tapering off of it. Highly advise against anyone taking Remeron for sleep!
mistered✘ Not a clientI love this. I think embracing the anxiety rather than trying to drive it away (even through positive thoughts or mindfulness) is super helpful.
mistered✘ Not a clientI was doing well for the last few days. Last night, while getting ready for bed, I started thinking about sleep. What do you know — I had difficulty falling asleep and then was up every hour. I think the key is not thinking about sleep at all. I was successful when I kept my mind in a disengaged position before sleep. Forcing my brain to focus on something else is not helpful as sleep pushes back in front of mind.
mistered✘ Not a clientI feel like I was only doing better because I’m totally refraining from ambien. Even last night when I had trouble falling asleep I refrained from using it. I plan on only taking it under very unusual circumstances – an event the next day where sleep is absolutely necessary (like a work presentation).
