I mean I tailed off on the journals 🙂

As soon as I'm able to, I'll be off on another trip with the same company I did some of the others with http://www.explore.co.uk

Good times: a call from a friend I haven't heard from for ages

Bad times: feeling really tired today (despite decent night's sleep) and can't concentrate on work 🙁

I started to use the online one at http://www.medhelp.org but didn't keep going with it. I'm pretty sure I know what affects my sleep so not that much need for me really at the moment.

I fall asleep much quicker if I'm listening to a podcast (not music) and I've got into a routine where I tend to do things in the same order before I go to bed. If I break the routine or sleep somewhere else it seems to take me longer to get to sleep. And I MUST be on the warm side of comfortable to sleep. I'll stay awake for hours if I'm cold

Good times: being part of a growing community

Good times: beating my best time to walk 2 miles

Good times: having lots of work to do

Bad times: thinking I have to walk 26 miles in May, not just 2!

Bad times: having lots of work to do 😉

I don't like doing bad times things – I'm trying so hard to look at the positives more than the negatives! Having said that, apart from being skint and my washing machine not working there isn't too much to complain about right now 😀

Ah, I forgot to mention Mexico and Brazil on my earlier post! You reminded me that I want to see more of Central and South America. You've got a good list of destinations there – did you every keep travel journals? I never did and kind of regret it now.

I did the first couple of days on some of the trips and then tailed off. I wish I'd kept them up, particularly on the Peru/Bolivia trip

I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression which sometimes causes lots of sleep and sometimes difficulty in sleeping. I go through phases of both. I suppose they didn't consider a separate insomnia diagnosis necessary.

I haven't found that music helps, but spoken word does. Go figure!

I started listening to podcasts when I went to bed. No reading in bed and certainly no work. I try and stop working (or tweeting etc) at least half an hour before I start getting ready for bed. Valerian tea helps, but I get the bathroom problem too!

The podcasts help. Sometimes they are guided meditations, sometimes intellectual programs that I may or may not be interested in. I think they work because they make me focus on one thing, not all the normal thoughts that go racing through my head when I'm trying to sleep. I often wake up with the iPod earphones tangled up so I'm thinking about getting one of those speaker pillows (will try and find a link)

    I totally agree.

Yam you should advise me on some films to put on my LoveFilm list 😎

Wow Martin you are well travelled!

I've been to a few countries too, mostly on holiday but I've worked in France (a placement when I was at Uni) and Poland (where I taught English).

I'll try and do a full list but might miss some countries out…

    Ireland (ex Hubby was Irish)

    France (Brittany, Paris and Lyon)

    Spain (holiday stuff)

    Portugal (ditto)

Greece (ditto plus a couple of Islands)

    Tunisia (holiday stuff)

    Germany (Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg)

    Poland (Opole, Wroclaw, Krakow)

    Belgium (Bruges, Brussels, Spa)

    Czech Republic (Prague – beautiful)

Russia (toured but visited Moscow – cried when I walked into Red Square as I'd always wanted to go! and St Petersburg – fantastic)

    Morocco (Marrakech – amazing)

Egypt (did a Felucca trip on the Nile – slept on an open deck under the stars)

    India (Goa)

Thailand (Bangkok, Chang Mai and other places, including the Bridge over the river Kwai)

    Cambodia (harrowing but fascinating)

Bolivia (amazing people, so interesting, but altitude gave me trapped wind LOL)

Peru (trekked part of the way to Macchu Picchu (still can't spell it though!)

    Cuba (Havana is fabulous!)

Jamaica (my brother lived there for a while)

USA (well, if you count an 8 hour stopover in Miami LOL)

There are so many more places I'd love to see but at the moment I don't have a valid passport!

    Hi Lindsay,

I have to say I'm glad it's so dark where I live – there isn't enough light to check the dust bunnies at night here although there are so many I'm sure it would send me to sleep!

    Good to meet you

Hi Bobbie, good to meet you. I know what you mean about taking sleep medications – I can't even take them in the evening because they knock me out for the next day (maybe I'm on the wrong ones though – that's a whole new topic!!)

    Paula
