Hi Nikki! I hail from England myself. Ugh, I know the having no sleep for days and working and having kids. I can't take sleeping meds, they work the opposite for me, keep me up for days.

You say you often worry about the no sleep factor. Have you ever tried medication for anxiety? It doesn't “cure” my insomnia, since I've had sleeping problems since I was a baby, and all my life, but I do find that it helps me. It's something I put off until just a few years ago, and I was quite surprised it was at all effective, but it works enough for me that I stick with it.

You know, I always hate when people say, “Have you tried this, or that?” because invariably I have. But you didn't mention this particular thing, so I thought I'd bring it up. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you around the board 🙂

I am also looking into anti anxiety. I was nervous to try them because I do know that they can be quite addictive but I am desperate. I figure even if I can use them once a week, at least its something.

Hi Nikki from the UK, this is Nikki from the US 🙂 I understand the feeling of lying awake and worrying about what you will feel like the next day. I lay and worry about everything, my thoughts race. Its such a vicious cycle, you can't sleep so you worry and that makes sleep even more difficult. I am new here also but already am feeling the joy of talking to people who understand. Good luck.

    Hi Nikki,

You're not alone. I wish people would truly understand what we are going through, however, unless they have been through it (and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy…well maybe a few), they just don't get it.

Sometimes expressing your fears with others who are going through the same thing you are, does help. I don't think prescription or OTcs work and I've started to use some more natural methods recommended by an aromatherapist with some good results.

What sort of natural methods? I hate relying on pills, first because I am afraid to become addicted, second because I hate the side effects, and third because they don't work at least for me. I would love to hear more.

Hi Nikki! I, too live in Vegas, and suffer with insomnia… it doesn't seem like there's much medical interest in our condition here! I've been to doctors, therpists, a chirpractor and an acupuncturist…all they wanna do is give you pills, not work with you to find out the root cause! Very frustrating.

So I've been doing my own research online, and going it alone. I've found a system that somewhat helps–sleeptracks paired with copious amounts of medical marijuana. Between the two, I have been sleeping ok…not great, but better than before. I am still experimenting and will not stop until I have cured myself 100%…I'm looking at maybe doing brain training if my current plan doesn't work better in the next month or so.

Anyway I could go on all day about the things I've tried/am trying, but I won't bore you. Good luck!

I have never tried sleeptracks although I just went and looked at the website and I have tried similar things. Marijuana has been suggested to me many times, its not something I want to try at this time. I am so glad to hear you have found something that works, even a little. I am begining to think that relief comes in small doses.

Hi everyone, my name is Nikki and I am a 32 year old woman living in Henderson Nevada, right outside Las Vegas. I moved here with my family about 4 years ago. I have a husband and a 13 year old son. I currently work as a cocktail waitress at nights and am starting school to get my nursing degree.

I have had insomnia since I was about 8 years old. I had this dream that it would get better as I got older but instead it seems to be getting worse. On most days I get 3 or 4 hours but I can have days where I go without any. I have tried almsot every sleeping med, OTC and prescription, and most traditonal and non traditonal methods to help me sleep. Nothing works. I won't get go into tons of details but suffice to say, I am physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted.

I am hoping that this forum will give me some conatct with people who truly understand. My family is supportive but I don't believe anyone who hasn't gone through insomnia can actually understand. I am hoping to be able to find and give support to people like me.

Thanks for listening and its nice to meet you all 🙂
