My insomnia started in early 2011, after my husband unexptected abondonded me with an upside down house and loads of debt, for a new job, new life, new house, new wife….fun stuff!!! I tried lots of different kinds of sleep pills, breathing, meditation, white noise etc… nothing was “magic”, but eventually I developed a sleep routine. Although, my sleep still has not returned to normal, I've just been dealing with little sleep or bad sleep since then, but I get by. I can relate to one other post, where sometimes I feel I have to “exhaust” myself, to sleep through the whole night, with no pills or sleep “help”. But recently I got a steriod shot to help with sinus infection, the steroids kept me wide awake for 3 full days, feeling very jittery! So now I'm back to a really messed up sleep routine. I'm taking 1/2 pill of tylenol PM and drinking sleepy time tea with Valarian Root and that seems to help me sleep all night, but I wake very groggy. But it's better than feeling like i'm going to faint, seeing spots, dizzy, headaches, vergigo, nausua etc…which comes from perscription sleep pills and/or no sleep. It seem strange to me that all the perscription sleep pills I tried left me with basically the same feeling the next day, as if I had stayed awake all night, for several nights in a row. Sorry so long and drawn out…. I guess the answer to your question is nervousness, anxiety, worry, anger, depression, thought hopping….which leads to a bad sleep pattern. Once the pattern is developed from stress, it's not always easy to get back to a good pattern.

I am using white noise right now and it's really helping. I downloaded an app for $1.99 to my android phone. I also turn off my phone (notifications, texts, phone calls), so I'm not bothered by anything when trying to fall asleep. It's really helping. Also make the room as dark as possible. I like ocean waves the best for white noise.

I tried to upload some pics, I guess they didn't take. The dog pic was too big. I'm not 100% sure I officially have insomnia, but for 2 months, I'm not sleeping right. I'm experimenting with different sleep pills now to find a good combination. My doctor isn't exactly helpful, only that they continue to let me try new meds. So I'm taking the matter into my own hands a bit. When is it officially called insomnia? Does it have to be an issue for years or just months? I hoped to learn what other meds people have tried to get new ideas and also offer any input on different meds I've tried. I am really sensitive to meds, so I'm usually taking the lowest dose, expect ambien, I've gotten used to that now and it doesn't work until I take 10mg. One Tylenol PM, puts me out for almost 20 hours (or sleep for 10, very groggy for the next 10). Can you suggest a thread that discusses mixing different meds, or should I start a new one?
