Thank you! Happy to have discovered this.

Yes! I know they’re thoughts. It didn’t start out so scary…my insomnia developed my first year of teaching out of stress and perfectionism. It took on a life of its own over the years, independent of life’s stressful events, although I certainly struggle more during those times (mostly with family events, ugh). Now I am unlearning those beliefs. I wish the amygdala would evolve so as to better represent modern stress–I am not marching into a band of scary men with masks or being chased by a bear or kidnapped by a terrorist (though this feels sadly possible)!

YES! I was afraid of being afraid of being afraid of being afraid. It took me a long time to even sign up for this course, because all I could see were the demons, big guys dressed in black and wearing black masks, I would be forced to face. Thing is, the only way OUT is THROUGH, and it turns out those demons, which were admittedly scary and still are some days, are actually just little kids whose masks come off. Now, I sort of picture myself walking towards them and seeing them for who they really are.

Agreed on the point regarding how long it can take. I’ve had insomnia for 27 years and it’s probably not too realistic to expect (for me) results in just a few weeks.

Thanks for posting this! I’m working on the same thing and it seems to be helping.
