I’ve tried magnesium spray. Mostly tried it for Neuropathy of my feet. Also read it helps with sleep. Unfortunately it gave me diarrhea. Tried pills too. You have to look for magnesium that doesn’t cause diarrhea. Any recommendations? I guess I’m very sensitive to magnesium.

I too took Gabapentin but I gained a lot of weight. Took it for neuropathy and it did not help much. Probably needed a higher dose. My sleep is hard as my feet burn, I have itching and tinnitus. I tried stopping Zolpidem Er and ended up with my GERD going out of wack ( tummy problems) Now have to have an upper GI series to see what’s causing it. I’m back on the sleeping pill cause lack of sleep made everything worse. I hope when they rule out anything serious I can try CBT 1 again. I hate taking Meds with all their many awful side effects. Wish there was something that works without harm. But lack of sleep is in itself very harmful. CBT1 is just very hard when you have health problems :(.

Right now my main problem is my stomach problem. I had to go to urgent care as it had gotten much worse. I was told my Gerd was out of wack and have to go on carafate plus double up on Protonix and have to follow-up with my Gastro Dr. So I may have to skip trying to get off sleep med temporarily. I’m learning to deal with Tinnitus. I may need help from my Dr for the neuropathy. So may also have to temporarily stop CBT but I will be back and all the information has been great. Thank you 🙂

I  was taking Zolpidem ER ( Ambien) for years and had gotten dependant and it eventually stopped working on occasion plus was no longer covered. So about 6 weeks ago I stopped taking it. Naturally my sleep stopped and that’s why I’m trying this CBT. It’s great information and a lot of it I knew and was trying. It’s not working consistently for me but I’m hanging in. I too would take 1/4 clonazipam when I woke too early so I could get back to sleep. Unfortunately I’m out of it and still trying to stay off the Zolpidem. It’s all very very hard. 🙁

Totally understand depending on pills. The sooner you stop them, the better you will be. It’s not easy.  Most or probably all natural substances also either won’t work or will stop working over time. I’ve stopped Zolpidem and Lexapro. Now I’m trying this CBT. It’s certainly worth a shot. :). You CAN quit sleepy pills. I did and so can you. I quess it’s like smoking, you have to want to quit. I pray you will decide to quit. ?????

I have similar problems getting medication due to new rules. I was on Zolpidem ER but it is hard to get them. It is no longer covered by my Insurance unless the Doctors calls and has a review done. Plus they only cover for limited amount and a less mg. So I paid for it which was $100. With coverage it was $40.  That’s what prompted me to get off the med as it didn’t even work so why pay for it? I’m trying this method and hoping it will get my sleep back on track. It’s a shame that people who really need medications can’t get them because of those that abuse them. 🙁

The best regiment for tapering off any med I ever read was from a Doctor. He said to take the med for 6 days, then skip a day, then take it for 5 days then skip 2 days, then 4 days and skip 3 until you are no longer taking any. It takes a lot longer. The usual way is every other day for a week then cut them in half and every other day etc. etc. The drastic method is cold turkey. That one can be very hard. And of course you should let your Doctor know. I managed to get off Lexapro doing the every other day method. It was awful. Doctors don’t seem to let you know how hard it is to get off a med. I currently stopped taking Zolpidem but I stopped cold turkey because it wasn’t working to help me get to sleep. It’s been over a month since I stopped it but naturally I’m having trouble sleeping. That’s why I’m on here trying this help for sleeping. So far, it is slowly getting better but still have good and bad days but my motto is one day at a time :). Hope this may help someone.
