      So I’m a 1 year graduate and here are some thoughts for those who are interested. First I would like people to know my previous status. I had dealt with moderate insomnia (troubles staying asleep predominately but frequent troubles falling asleep as well) that I feel stemmed from the normal mid-life stress (kids, work, mild anxiety/bluesy spells). My primary care doc (and good friend) suggested Lunesta to start since I was already an avid exerciser and eat well. That drug was ridiculous, it made me sleep but the dreams were terrible. Ambien was better but long term I didn’t want an addiction problem and it didn’t seem restful. Also tried a therapy called Cereset that wasn’t successful for me. Finally I found and snooped this forum. I then did Martin’s program and here we are. It has been greatly successful for me. Nothing is perfect but the program gives me a framework to stay within when a couple bad nights arise. The CBT-i therapy is an ongoing, long term solution/therapy to keep you grounded when thoughts/worries about sleep start to spiral. Before the program one bad night would cause the cascading effect of worry about sleep, don’t sleep, tired during the day, day napping, no workouts, then no sleepless nights, worry about sleep, etc. Hope everyone else is having their verison of success.         Great to hear your success story, being an almost 2 year graduate of Martin’s course myself.

        I guess you described it well. Insomnia is mainly a problem of over problem-solving and over troubleshooting. The result of these efforts or a lack of success from them are what keep us stuck in the loop.

        I am still sleeping well after almost 2 years. “Well” is subjective, I guess, because 4 hours of great quality sleep is still sleeping soundly to me. At this point, sleep in any way, shape, form, or duration means absolutely nothing to me. I basically stopped losing sleep over sleep because it is not what defines my life or capability. It simply doesn’t matter anymore.

        My best wishes to you. I reckon you will still get those occasional difficult nights but I believe you won’t be overreacting to them. They will come and pass like countless times in the past. Good luck!
