A common occurrence I’m sure – found this forum while lying awake in bed.
My Insomnia started 12 years ago after completing nearly 1,000 domestic/international flights in a 3 year period from a past employer.
My circadian rhythm was smoked. Heavy reliance on melatonin.
I quit cold turkey, gave up caffeine, cut out most alcohol, neither of which were ever a ‘problem’, but to get back my CR it had to be done.
The closest I ever got back to normal, was to spend 10-12 hours in bed. I would sleep 4, wake up for 2 and sleep 4 more. That was the routine. No pills or supplements.
A cool, dark, quiet room were absolutes, with a high sensitivity to any noise disturbance.
In the past 3 years, due to severe personal obstacles not health related (deaths and relationships), my sleep routine is being destroyed by an increased heart rate when I go to bed or wake up in the night.
It is anxiety based, and even perhaps PTSD related. Being a health nut and physically fit, I won’t take pills or go down the road of seeing a sleep specialist or therapist – been there, done it and the prescriptions were sleeping pills and Lorazepam.
I am seeking out answers or suggestions to calm my mind or heart into letting me relax enough to fall back into sleep.
I don’t currently have any family worries, nor issues at work. Some slight financial obstacles due to the economy in recent years, but nothing not being managed.
Any help is appreciated…
