As a newly expecting mother, my options for sleep medications are limited. I took trazodone for many years, convinced it was my answer. Now that I can’t take it, my problems from the past have risen back to the surface and I am losing all confidence in my ability to sleep. It seems like every other night I’m up until 5am. The following night is sometimes better due to my sever exhaustion, but nevertheless I return to another sleepless night. I guess no better time than the present to put an end to my reliance on sleeping pills once and for all. The most dreadful part of being up all night is the feeling of deep loneliness. How do others cope with these emotions?

Welcome to the forum, @Slumberseeker — you are not alone!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! It sounds as though you are looking for an alternative to medication now that’s no longer an option. Without that alternative, you feel uncertain how you can move forward and you are doubting your natural ability to sleep (even though that never went away and never goes away).

People cope with emotions in all different ways. What matters most is how you cope. How you respond. How do you currently respond, and what are you learning from that?
