I tried Bowmore Single Malt Scotch Whisky once but I couldn't take the smokiness. It was like drinking a cigar.
I do like Aberlour. I don't really know much about whiskey – I need to try more different types.
Aberlour is favored by Scots folksinger Archie Fisher–I tend to ask Scots I like what their favored malt is, which is why I know this. I want to try A'bunadh from Aberlour, made the way whiskey was produced in the 1800's, un-chill-filtered and bottled at cask strength 59.5%. Slowly matured in rare Oloroso sherry butts.
Bowmore is what my husband fancies. I think if it's an Islay malt, it'll be too smoky for you, as it's the nature of those malts.
The best way to try more malts is to find a restaurant/bar/pub which offers a large selection AND has a knowledgeable barkeep. Another way is to find a shop that has a really good selection (not BevMo) of minis. Trader Joe's has only a few malts to essay, alas foryou, as their prices are good.

Here are mine:
1. I once ran naked through the woods in Finland and jumped into an icy cold lake during a sauna session
2. My favoUrite animals are ducks
3. At the age of 21 I once woke up in a field after a night of drinking not knowing where I was or how I got there.
4. I am extremely frugal – my friends call me 'penny saver', yet I like to buy cool stuff.
5. I'll try anything once.
Haha, brilliant, I always knew you had a secret wild side to you !!
Okay I'll join in.
1) I come across as loud and eccentric but I'm actually rather quiet and reserved in person
2) I'm 27 in a month but the more I age, the more immature I seem to become (trying to cling onto my youth)
3) I have no value for money whatsoever. I received a handsome inheritance several years ago and every last penny of it is gone, and what's worse I have nothing to show for it. If I've got money in my pocket or my bank account I stay out until it is all gone out of pure impulse
4) I can't go to sleep at all unless I've had half an hour cuddling with my dog. Sad but true, I've had her since she was just 3 weeks old, she's 11 this year and always likes a cuddle on the sofa before we go to bed
5) My biggest dream is to go into politics, and although I had my foot in the door last year and threw it all away, I have no regrets as I believe now I was going down the wrong path anyway and gaining popularity in the wrong Party, so I'm taking a year's hiatus while I move house and go back to college and will start it all from scratch, in a more legitimate Party

Monster Raving Loony Party?

September 22, 2011 at 6:29 pm #12884I actually have the application forms and what-not here, to form my own. When i left unnamed Party, I still had a lot of supporters from the youth wing of the group of which I had a short stint of leadership in, and they were all saying “Start your own party, we'll come join you!” etc etc.
So I got the forms, and giving it serious consideration. It'll only be local, though, not general. Freedom For Yorkshire Party, campaign for a Yorkshire assembly and demand more local autonomy and a return of local Democracy rather than centralised state control which means poverty strikes here because of the south's one-size-fits-all unreasonable high taxation on the north to supplement their own region(s).
And I want to campaign for more animal rights, too, and protection of the countryside.
So I'll either join Labour, or, start my own regional party.
September 23, 2011 at 11:17 pm #128851. I was struck by lightning when I was three.
2. I have crazy, horrid nightmares when I DO manage to fall asleep. Dunno why.
3. I want to be just like Charles Bukowski. xD
4. Ever since I was born I've been constantly moving. Longest I've ever lived somewhere was maybbe a year and a half.
5. I believe that the movie Idiocracy is an accurate description of our future.

Wow. I need more details! How did it happen? Were there any side-effects? Maybe insomnia?!

September 27, 2011 at 12:39 am #12887Haha, lightening-induced insomnia, like it!
But yeah how the devil did that happen? You're lucky to have survived being only three! Wow
September 27, 2011 at 8:52 pm #12888Ok I'll play too…
I worry far too much about what other people think of me (and always have)
I love reality tv especially the trashy programmes like jersey shore
I was the second person involved in finding a naked dead guy in a hospital car park
My favourite past time is reading
I have always wanted to live by the sea.

September 30, 2011 at 12:32 pm #12890Me too because I'm new….
I have 10 siblings (yes all from same parents)
I saved a swan on the highway
I have always wanted to live by the sea too. Maybe an old lighthouse?
I visited the Amen Clinic in Reston Va this past summer to see if that could get me some
relieve from my chronic insomnia, so far, disappointed
Insomnia runs my life or ruins my life especially since I love to travel and haven't because of my sleep issues.

I know a 1 of 9 and a 1 of 10, and neither wanted children of their own. The first has reasonably good relations with her family, because the adult relatives were reasonable people; the second has severe problems with more than a couple of her siblings, as their father *encouraged* sibling rivalry. Looked the other way about sibling molestation, too.
Quote:I saved a swan on the highwayOoooh, story! Tell!
Quote:I have always wanted to live by the sea too. Maybe an old lighthouse? If you chose to live by the sea, learn about the storms that come up and how to protect yourself from their affects. Find out if the property is on sandstone or limestone, or some easily erodable substrate before you make an offer!
Me, I like too many plants for my yard that don't work that close to marine influences, so I'll be about a mile inland.

October 21, 2011 at 2:50 pm #12892OK, I thought I'd update my 5 things…
- [*]The May family/clan actually founded the town of Basingstoke![*]I'm a qualified chef…but I'm scared of cooking for people.[*]Penguins are in my opinion the best animal ever.[*]I love the colour purple (the book/movie is good too…but I mean the colour itself)[*]I walk into my local hospital, and I'm known on a first name basis…not good!!
October 22, 2011 at 6:39 pm #12893Thought I'd play along…
1. I'm sometimes too nice for my own good and let people walk all over me
2. I eventually came out the closet 2 years ago, to which none of my friends or family seemed surprised, maybe it's pretty obvious. since doing it though, I've never been happier.
3. I always wanted to be invisibe when I was younger and seem to have got my wish because now that I am registered disabled with unstable MS, nobody seems to listen to me (except my awesome friends!)
4. I always seem to be the loudest person in a group of friends but I am really quite quiet and shy, just good at hiding it. I suffer with a form of agoraphobia which makes me panic in crowds so it's a great way of getting out of meeting lots of new people at once!
5. I love my new girlfriend and am quite thankful to my ex for leaving me because I would never have found out what it feels like to be in love properly and not just be the easy option for someone!!

Our entire ATS Belly dance troupe loves purple.
When the rather attractive Pharmacist at the local druggist/chemist knew my name, I began to worry. Alas, his red head went somewhere else rather soon after. -
