      Hey everybody!

It’s been six months since I finished the course. I had insomnia for a year, and on the worst days I would go 48 hours without sleep. I read all the tips and tried to fix the problem by myself. I could tell that the techniques we use in the program work, but it was not until I signed up for the course that I noticed a huge improvement, because I wouldn’t follow them 100% when nobody was “watching me”. It was specially staying up late and waking up at the same time every day made the biggest difference. I noticed an improvement already on week 1 in the program.

Now, if I can’t sleep at night, I just get out of bed if I start to feel anxious. I stay up until I feel sleepy. I have only had one bad night the last three months, but I was been able to get back on track within a couple of days by staying up late and waking up the same time. I’m very confidence in my ability to sleep now.

It’s important to stick to the program for it to work. it’s a bit hard, but it’s harder to have insomnia. I haven’t had it for 6 months now, and it’s great! 🙂
      Trust the process!

      Cheers from Norway

        Hello Line
Great success story. May it inspire others that they can sleep and are not broken in any way.

thanks for the post, how long were your sleep windows and how long did it take for them to open up? I’m at 5.5 hour sleep window and just finished week 1, and am hoping to get to 6.5 hours soon.

Hi David. This might not be encouraging, but it looks like I increased in week 6. But I would sleep longer on average every week. The problem for me was that I was on a summer vacation and we would drive around for a couple of weeks so I slept during the day.

As soon as I could follow the program properly then it worked. I also was impatient and pressured myself so hard to get improvements, that the big improvements came after I stopped trying so hard 🙂

Thank you Line. I’m fairly new to CBTI, but I’m feeling confident and hoping I can post something similar to you 6 months from now!

                You will 🙂
Last week I had a night with little sleep, and it freaked me out a bit. For the next couple of days I went to bed late, woke up early, and then I was back on track again. On average after that night I have fallen asleep in less than 30 minutes.. If I’m awake in bed for more than 20 minutes, I go to my living room for a few minutes and I return to bed. I only have to get out of bed for 1 or two times on average now if I can’t sleep, but I don’t have to do this so often anymore, since I don’t have insomnia anymore. It’s just stress at work that makes some nights harder. Just trust the techniques, they work 🙂 Good luck!

                  Hi @Line

Wonderful success story and the tips you shared are splendid! You’re absolutely right though – patience and commitment to the program are keys to success. The other benefit of learning and implementing CBT-I techniques is that you’ll always have them in your back pocket to use if you experience poor sleep again, just as you did! Thanks for sharing your story with the rest of us!
