Last night was just awful. I was waking up every hour or so and I was having horrible dreams. I feel exhausted this morning. No good trying to sleep now because I can't sleep in the day. Grrrr@insomnia. 😡
February 9, 2012 at 10:39 am #13639All of us will be thinking of you today, Jane, and greatly sympathizing! Hopefully, tonight you will really sack out and catch the zzz's you need.
I've had several good nights in a row this week, but week-ends are my downfall. Today is Thursday, so Friday is just around the corner, and that's when my insomnia kicks in. And tonight (Thursday) I will start THINKING about dreading Friday, so then that will probably impact my sleep tonight — well, it's a constant circle of frustration!
February 9, 2012 at 4:23 pm #13640Thank you Bobby.
I've never heard of the expression: *sacking out* before. I like that. 😆
One of these days we will all log in here and report we've all had a blissful 10 hours uninterrupted sleep………dream on Jane. 😆
What is it about weekends that seems to make your insomnia worse?
February 9, 2012 at 4:40 pm #13641I'm glad you figured out what “sacking out” means. I didn't know that was pretty much just an American expression. I've had similar problems sometimes with all the books I've read by British authors, where they'll use a common Brit expression, and I am totally baffled. One recently was “taking the piss.” Thank goodness for the Internet — I was able to look it up!
Well, my week-end insomnia problems are (I think) because of the fact that my fiance and I can only be together at that time, as he lives and works about 50 miles away. So I'm alone all week, and then suddenly have my wonderful bed-partner — but then I can't sleep. He feels very bad about this (he does snore and has leg-twitching problems), and I don't want him to feel responsible for something he's not doing intentionally.
So in recent months we've started sleeping in separate rooms. Sounds not very nice, but this has not hurt our “romance” at all, thank goodness. However, I still have trouble sleeping, even though I'm physically alone in the bedroom. My conclusion is that when he is there, even in another room, I'm thinking about him and looking forward to our week-end plans. This should be a happy thing, I know. But during the week, my life is just sort of more calm and uneventful, hence more peaceful sleep. At the week-ends, my mind is racing and excited and there's just more to think about.
It's very frustrating. All I can figure is that once he retires and can come live with me all the time, my emotions and mind-racing will adjust, and my sleep and life-style will be more consistent all week long. I hope so!!

Sorry you had such an awful night! Nightmares are horrible! Hopefully you are sleeping now , dreamlessly!
I am looking at a long night ahead of me playing Hearts on the computer, reading a really bad book that I downloaded and feel should now finish and looking up weird stuff on google images- like bee butts or patriotic puppies , maybe huge hamburgers- the possibilities are endless!
February 15, 2012 at 8:55 am #13643I have no idea why I was having that particular dream. It's not something I want to have again either.
Thankfully it hasn't happened since so maybe it was a one off.
There's nothing wrong with sleeping apart if it helps you get some much needed sleep. I don't sleep with my OH, for the simply reason that he fidgets constantly, hogs all the duvet and flings himself all over my side of the bed. I ended up going downstairs most nights and sleeping on the couch anyway. I get so irritable when I haven't had any sleep so this way is better. We've just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary though so it's not all bad.
Bobby your post made me giggle. 😆 Taking the piss just means to make fun of, take the mickey, that kind of thing. It is odd though that Americans and Brits speak the same language, yet we often have completely different ways of saying things, that mean the same thing anyway. It is fascinating though and always interesting to learn how other people say things.
Maybe we should start up a thread of our different ways of saying things? Would be really interesting, then maybe someone could publish it and it would be a best seller!! Me and my bright ideas. 😆
I've hurt my back day. Al I was doing was getting dressed for Gods sake when I felt it go. I've had a bad back for years, (old war wound from nursing) and every now and then something happens to it. grrr. 😡
Have a lovely day everyone. 🙂

You should see some of the looks I get over here, even nowadays. I try to 'adjust' what I would normally say, but sometimes the Brit in me comes out and I just Bamboozle people – even though we technically speak the same language!

February 19, 2012 at 8:38 am #13645Another awful night. I only got about 5 hours. I feel like a zombie this morning.
February 25, 2012 at 3:38 pm #13646The last 2 nights have been dreadful again. I just keep waking up time and time again. I then get up at 5 am because I just cannot sleep. Consequently by the end of the day I'm knackered.
February 26, 2012 at 7:44 am #13647Had another crap night. I had yo get up at 3am for the bathroom and I spent the rest of that time trying to go back to sleep. I gave up at 6am and got up. My eyes feel gritty. So guess how I feel today……. 😡
February 27, 2012 at 3:37 pm #13648I think I may as well give up going to bed. It just gets worse. I can fall asleep, but staying asleep………………forget it. 😡
February 28, 2012 at 6:52 pm #13649Sorry to hear that, Jane. Perhaps you need another visit to your GP to get this figured out!

February 29, 2012 at 1:08 pm #13650I think a lot of it may be due to worry about my son Martin. It's constantly on my mind. I sleep with one ear open in case he wakes up and calls me. He isn't well again now, he has gastritis at the moment.
What can the doctor do anyway? I don't need sleeping pills. I can fall asleep, it's staying asleep that is the hard part. I could fall asleep during the day no problem, but then I'd never get to sleep at night. *sigh* Maybe once he's seen the specialists soon things will improve.
March 1, 2012 at 1:28 am #13651I wouldn't be surprised if your worries about your son were the cause of your insomnia. I wonder if there are any CBT options available on the NHS?

March 23, 2012 at 7:53 am #13652It's getting worse. The past few nights have been dreadful with me getting no more than about 3 hours sleep before waking up again, and again and again.
Also I've been suffering with dizziness. Every time I lay down, the room spins round. Blood tests were all normal so I don't know what it is. It's a horrible feeling though.
