My idea of accepting insomnia is making plans for what I’m going to do while I’m awake. Another idea I had is to try to stay awake as long as possible to take that pressure off of myself to sleep.

This is much easier said than done but it makes sense that if you focus on your sleep too much you’ll put too much pressure.

What ways do y’all accept insomnia?

The real acceptance is no longer viewing it as a threat or problem. No more trying to escape or running away from it.

The real acceptance is no longer troubleshooting it.

The real acceptance is no longer asking so many questions. Endless “why’s, what’s, how’s and when’s” will not yield an answer. They just prolong the struggle even further.

Then what’s left is just serene silence as if in meditation where the body is calm and the mind is at peace.

Accepting insomnia is just letting go of thinking you can control your sleep all the time. I just got back from a vacation beach week and it was wonderful. I did not worry about sleep, I was so busy and was so tired I fell asleep about 9 oclock every night and slept until 6. When I am home I go to bed around 12 but wake up at 5;30 or 6. I found out on vacation I still wake up early which irritates me. I would love to sleep until 7 or 8 but it is what it is. I am just happy to be sleeping all night. I have had to accept occasionally I will have a bad night which I hate but then I get back usually the next night. This is acceptance for me.
