August 29, 2018 at 8:07 pm #23162Multiple sleep studies across the US throughout life. Yes, AI, although is little known about it – I am clinically unable to obtain N3 (delta stages 3,4) without pharmaceuticals. Brain patterns show the moment slow wave is broached the brain ‘shoots’ alpha waves into the process to disturb/break the sleep. It is nothing short of a life of torture. Now with massive amounts of Magnesium applied topically there are fragments of slow wave sleep – just cannot be sustained.
September 5, 2018 at 12:21 am #23212Can you tell me about the Magnesium, please?
September 5, 2018 at 12:56 am #23213Yes, It would be my pleasure. My life has been so unbelievably marginalized from sleep deprivation, and meds stole decades of ‘me.’ Finally at age 55 I took a step of faith and eliminated all pharmaceuticals, and sleep was as bad as one could imagine. But a couple months later, by the nudging of my lovely wife, I began administering large doses of Magnesium topically (through the skin – spray on). It was the first time in my adult life I experienced slow-wave sleep without the aid of drugs. I actually lost track of time for short segments (this was new to me – since previously I could sadly always guess the time pretty closely before peeking at pretty much any time during the night – since I really never slept restoratively at all). It didn’t fix me totally, but it gave me hope. So I started really pouring it on (more on that in a minute), and more and more I experienced deeper segments, for longer periods (up to about 90 minutes, sometimes three, even four segments in a night!). This to me was (and is) revolutionary. It’s not enough to function normally, but it so far allows me to stay almost completely off drugs (and I have them ALL).
So, I use Pure Magnesium Oil Spray from Amazon- and spend about 15 to 20 minutes spraying and rubbing over my entire body (I don’t miss a centimeter) almost every night. It’s not that much fun, but the alternative is torture.
It has given me somewhat of a life – more than I had before, but I still fight like mad for every ounce of sleep. My sleep hygiene is immaculate as is my lifestyle, and still at 59 I want more … I want to be able to count on strong days without dreading appointments, and being consumed with thoughts of ‘how soon can I get home and lay down?’. But still – Living without meds and feeling even some restoration, is a first in my lifetime (I have been broken in the sleep department since childhood).
Hope all that helps. Let me know if I can answer anything else.

September 5, 2018 at 3:26 am #23215This is great info and thank you. Why do you apply it to every part of you, and why does it take so long?
I’ve heard in the past about using magnesium, but since I’ve tried every snake oil I could find for over a year and a half, and spending over $2k dollars already trying to fix my sleep, I stopped believing anything could work. I HATE the sleep issue. Every night is torture. At the age of 50, I can’t understand where this suddenly came from, why this happens, why I can’t sleep after a lifetime of sleeping long and great.
I would rather die early than continue to live this way.
No one understands what a tremendous problem this is. The doctors certainly won’t take it seriously. It feels like my entire life centers around my sleep. I will lie in bed sometimes for 12 hours to get 1-2 hours of sleep, and often get nothing. I just lie there upset. I try to do the sleep restriction but I can’t make myself get up after 5.5 hours. I just lie there and cry. And getting up and down every half hour doesn’t help either – it wakes me up more.
I put the magnesium in my cart.
I am really happy for you that you found something to help. What have your doctors tried?
September 5, 2018 at 3:31 am #23216BTW, I have an entire pharmacy by my bed full of things I try on different nights – it’s like I am a drug store. I can’t go anywhere anymore unless I take my fan, my blue blocking glasses, my meds/herbs/oils/supplements, etc, etc…Each night I fasten the curtains all over the walls to prevent any light seeping through…and each morning I try to come up with reasons to get out of bed and live my miserable life.
I understand that keeping prisoners from sleep is considered torture under the Geneva Conventions. Now I know why.
September 5, 2018 at 5:14 am #23222It takes long and I cover entire body because I want and need as much as I can get in my system. I am a very extreme case and there is no research on side effects, so you should check with your MD first. But as you have expressed, there is such a desperation in the torture chamber of sleeplessness – that one becomes willing to do almost anything for just the hope of a few minutes of sleep.
I can’t imagine what it’s like to live so many years ‘normal’ and then get hit with this mess. Me, I’ve had it all my life. I have never, ever slept through a night in my life – I have no idea what it must feel like to be restored – I see people go through entire days and never even think about being tired or exhausted. Me – always – my whole life- the # 1 issue has always been – lack of Sleep! Ahhh.
I do believe I have a relationship with God and that means a ton to me. In that I see a lot of good come from it all – even given all the costs throughout my life – relational and financial. And – talk about monetary cost – Friend – I am past the six digit mark easy on expenditures. Just sleep studies alone, not covered by insurance of course – three of them across the nation coast to coast – and barrels of meds and Dr visits and on and on. So, – I feel you!
On pharmaceuticals – I have a lot of experience – way too much. Of all of them – Xyrem used strategically was the most effective – but it, as well as the rest, takes a piece of you -It’s like you’re living outside yourself. And no matter what we become tolerant – and need more and more – to the point where you are so poisoned – AND sleep deprived. For me – if I can make it without the drugs – I surely want to try. I am now involved in a very aggressive neurofeedback program that is not passive or behavioral – but instead will be mirroring my brainwaves and sending signals back to the brain to try to retrain it. I can / will share more about that as I go through it – I’m starting this Friday. Meantime – I gotta hit the chamber!
Anything I can do or share to help you let me know. Best wishes
September 8, 2018 at 1:55 am #23259I’ve tried magnesium spray. Mostly tried it for Neuropathy of my feet. Also read it helps with sleep. Unfortunately it gave me diarrhea. Tried pills too. You have to look for magnesium that doesn’t cause diarrhea. Any recommendations? I guess I’m very sensitive to magnesium.
September 8, 2018 at 4:29 am #23260Any magnesium orally has made me sick too – and frankly doesn’t seem to get metabolized.
The topical I use is:Pure Magnesium Oil Spray – LEAST ITCHY and Highest Potency – ONE 12fl. Oz Transdermal Magnesium Oil – Used for Joint Pain, Sore Muscles, Insomnia, Restless Leg Syndrome, Headaches and more – Made in USA
