Background: I had insomnia before, around 2 yrs ago. It happened suddenly out of the blue. As I was living with my parents then, I was able to get past this. There were still bad nights here and there but overall, I managed to shrug them off as normal.

It’s during this time that I moved out too.

This brings me to now. A week ago I was infected with COVID. During this time I am living outside, alone. There were two nights(last Wednesday and Friday) where I had difficulty sleeping due to eating heavy meals and being too full to even be comfortable in bed.

This just made me worried somehow. At first I thought this is short lived as on Friday night, I learnt my lesson and ate less. I was rewarded with the COVID being gone from my system and a decent rest

But come Saturday, my friend gave me some concentrated broth. I heated it up for dinner and I found I literally couldn’t sleep at all for the whole night. It was only during the next morning that I found out why. High sodium as the broth was extremely salty and I drank a whole bowl of it.

But unfortunately in spite of this…I am anxious, worried, afraid of insomnia relapse.

Any tips on dealing with this kind of anxiety?

You are never going to get past insomnia as long as you are very unwilling to tolerate it occasionally. “Shrug it off as normal” – this is exactly everyone needs to do! The faster you accept this fact, the faster you will get over each episode when it happens.

I know this. But like when you are utterly alone and have no one to let this out to…it’s hard

Last time I am fortunate that I could actually joke about my insomnia once improvements started. Like I could also count on friends and family since I wasn’t living alone

It’s different when I am just in a different place with no one close enough for me to let this out.

Anxiety, worry, and fear are all symptoms of your brain doing its job and looking out for you! Thank goodness for that — we wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for those types of emotions and feelings!

What is it about the arrival of those thoughts and feelings that makes things difficult, do you think, and how do you currently respond to them (and how workable/effective is that proving to be)?
