It’s 4 40AM, and still zero sleep. I hardly know where to begin. Basically, I never sleep at night, nor during he day. I have periods when I doze off for 15 to 30 mins around 6 am or10pm but that’s all I get. I’ve been dealing with this severe sleep deprivation and insimnia for over 45years. Nothing has helped. I’ve tried everything. EVERYTHING!. NOW MY SITUATION HAS WORSENED. I’ve PUT ON 88 POUNDS IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS DUE TO THE INSOMNIA. I DONT THINK IM GOING TO LIVE LONG. I HAVE CRUSHING HEADACHES 24 /7 AND ALWAYS FEEL SICK. WRITING ALL OF THIS KNOWING THiAT IT IS MUCH WORSE THAN IM STATING IS MAKING ME SO INCREDIBLY UPSET SO I’LL STOP. IM SO DESPERATE!

        Hello
So sorry to hear about your condition. You need just two things to sleep well again:
        1. Go to and get out of bed at consistent times. No sleeping in between. Start at allowing for 6 hours then slowly increase that once you are sleeping more and feel you are ready.
        2. Develop the right mindset. Go to the success stories section, learn how others dealt with their problems and ultimately how they got out of the vicious cycle of insomnia. Things like letting go of control, not caring how you sleep and being non jugdmental about your sleep. Very very important. You must have the right mindset because it is what shapes your behaviors and attitude towards sleep. Good luck! Everyone can overcome insomnia including you.

          Hi @LBL,

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for posting and I’m hoping we can offer some guidance to improve your sleep after 45 years. Since you’ve tried everything, I’m assuming you’ve explored implementing CBT-I techniques so did you have difficulty or have questions about any of those techniques? As Chee mentioned, a consistent sleep window and creating a strong sleep drive to overpower your anxious thoughts at night is vital to improve your sleep. Are you going to bed only when you’re sleepy (yawning, dozing off, etc) or are you compensating for a poor night of sleep and going to bed early and at different times during the week?

Are you engaging in activities you find personally relaxing and enjoyable a couple of hours before bedtime? When you start to worry about sleep, what is going through your mind?
