      Hi everyone!

I’ve been struggling with awakenings in the middle of the night for more over 2 years. The strangest thing is that those episodes occur only on weekdays.

Every time I have to go to work I wake up at 3 or 4 AM and struggle to go back to sleep in less than an hour (because I feel anxious about getting the right amount of sleep and performing poorly the next day at work). I had the first episode before a partuculary stressful day at work and it continues since then even if now my job is far less stressful.

My physician has prescribed Tradozone but it had zero effect on me. The fact is I love my job, and my insomnia is ruining one of the greatest satisfactions in my life because everytime I have to go there I feel anxious about not getting enough sleep and it seems like a vicious circle. So I wonder if anyone had had the same experience?

Many people experience ‘weekday’ insomnia for the exact reasons you describe! The good news is, this problem can usually be addressed using CBT-I techniques. Did you discuss CBT-I with your physician?

CBT-I techniques have been proven to be more effective than sleeping pills and are recommended as the first-line treatment for insomnia by organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the American College of Physicians, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

CBT-I is particularly effective at reducing the anxiety surrounding sleep, and reversing the vicious cycle of less sleep and ever-more anxiety, and turning it around to become a positive cycle of ever-reducing anxiety and improving sleep.
