Just wondering what people's rituals are. Like, strange ones.

Mine is chapstick. I need to put chapstick on right before i go to bed, or I'll sit there saying to myself, “Gah, I really need to put chapstick on.” That, and I play the same three songs every night right after I turn the lights out. Can't sleep until I play them.

      Anyone else?

oddly enough, chapstick for me as well, suffer with cracked lips.

I also make sure doors re shut, phone fully charged, and (I await a ribbing for this) make sure a teddy bear i had for nearly 15 years is near my bed.

After that I plug n my music and hope for the best…

What a great topic idea – I'm surprised that more members haven't contributed to this one as yet!

I'm with you on the chapstick. In some ways I wish I never got started using it – it's so addictive and absolutely impossible to sleep without putting it on before bed, otherwise you just keep thinking about how dry your lips are.

I also like to read before bed – which is something the 'insomnia experts' typically advice against.

Oh gosh, chapstick…I perpetually put it on, but my lips are almost perpetually dry.

I have a fairly similar ritual to Yameris, actually. I make sure the door is closed, I usually lock it (I have awesome roommates, just a safety habit, also, it helps keep me safe in case I am not “sane” at the time). I make sure things that need charging (iPod, phone, etc) are. I pull the comoforter and sheet back a very specific amount (borderline obsessive about how it's folded) crawl in, call my cat (if she hasn't already joined me) and hopefully call it a night.

Oh, I forgot, before all that I turn on my fan (even in the cold.) I like it cold, esp. at night, and also I found the fan is amazing at generating white noise. And I always re-fluff my pillow. (Even though, I fluff it and make my bed the second after I get up–cuz I'm weird.)

No matter what time it is, when I get in I MUST watch at least 5 mins tv or I feel as if the day wasn't my own. I'll watch anything; even infomercials.

And I have to put vasoline/petroleum jelly on my lips or they feel too dry for me to sleep (much like everyone else's chapstick thing).

I slide into bed then ask the great angel Rapheal to protect me while I sleep. I'm Wiccan by the way.

I was reading for about 3 hours in bed last night – anyone here read Shutter Island yet? I just couldn't put it down. When black spots appeared on the page as I was reading, I figured it was finally time to put the book down and get to sleep!

What are the three songs? (If you don't mind sharing 🙂 )
