My sleep window is from 11:30pm-5am.   Last night, I had a fairly restless night, had to get up for SC once and woke up at 3:45am.  I know the time because I thought it was almost 5am so I looked at my phone.  Disappointed, I laid back down in bed hoping to fall back asleep but after what felt like 20 minutes, I got restless and decided to get up and start my day early.  I got dressed, went down to the kitchen and saw the time was actually 4:50am.  I had actually fallen back asleep for at least 45 minutes and had no reason to be frustrated.

In fact, my whole outlook for today is much happier knowing I got up at the end of my sleep window.  My perception in bed was I had a much worse night than I actually had.  As I think back on the night, my tossing and turning probably also lasted for a shorter duration that I actually perceived it during the middle of the night.

I wonder how often I may be actually underestimating my actual sleep?

I always under/over estimate my sleep. I am not a good estimator of time, eith when I am awake or after waking up. Glad you got a good night’s sleep in.
